The film also had some Max Steiner music in it, if I recall correctly.

That's interesting. Re-recorded pieces? Anyone know what Steiner pieces are in there?

It had various segments, a lot from his sword fighting scenes, and also a snipit of the superman theme.
Edit: I think they also used some of the same music from the opening credits of the Sea Hawk if you are more familiar with that.

I really can't wait to hear Data's theme. smile

You should rent the movie! smile
It's really worth the time because it's such, what I consider, a classic fun film.

Now that The Goonies is released, here's what's left of my "grails":
Gremlins & Gremlins 2
Family Plot

That's it, but here are ones that would be nice and I'd probably pick up:
Explorers (Expanded)
Hook (Expanded)
Star Trek III (Complete)
Star Trek V (Complete)
Independence Day (Expanded)
Dracula (Expanded)
Jaws 2
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
Batman & Robin
Return To Oz (Expanded)
The Witches

and I know Poltergeist is coming...

I agree with... almost all of these! When Paramount's vaults opened, the guys at Intrada said they were gonna try to work on the issues re: Explorers but that it would be a while.

Hopefully, Lukas will be able to pull Star Trek III out of his hat. He told us not to bug him and I think we've behaved ourselves. smile When La-La Land released Caddyshack, they said it was the start of a new deal with Sony so hopefully we'll get Star Trek V out of that. The rest... I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

"The Goonies" is polarizing based on when you were born, apparently. I'm 45, and nobody my age thinks of this movie as anything but a ridiculous joke. But everybody -- and I mean everybody -- I know who is 35 worships this film as a classic.

I was 10 when it came out and I didn't like it very much at the time. I loved Back to the Future and even Young Sherlock Holmes when those were released that year, but I didn't particularly like The Goonies for whatever reason. My wife loves it and we watched the Blu-Ray last year -- it's alright, I enjoy it mildly now for what it was, but it's neither a great movie nor a great "kids movie". Donner's annoying habit of having the kids talk LOUDLY over one another gave me a headache after a little while, and I don't think it has aged well at all.

That said I'm still ordering the score because of the main title. A classic, oft-imitated temp-track favorite and a superb score by Grusin!

Just the other day I was wearing a Goonies shirt and the checker at the store smiled and told me how much she loves the film and how her kids now love it. Twenty five years later and now another generation is discovering it. It's not high art, but it's a great kids flick with a dynamite score by Grusin.

MV

That's a funny Goonies tale MV. Such story happened to me, here in France.

I'm a 35 yo school teacher. One day, two years ago, I wear my grey Goonies T-shirt :

It was in june, a hot day so I put my sweat-shirt off, showing my precious T-shirt and one of my pupils, who was 10 yo said "Cool, the Goonies !". I was both very surprised to see that another generation could be fan of this movie and very proud of him !

Greatest batch since a very long time indeed, yes !

Love it. I'm a 38 year old school teacher (5th grade) and have a Goonies shirt as well. One of these days I'll pony up and wear it to school!

Great Release! Hey is it me or has anyone noticed "The Fratelli chase theme/cue" sounds just like James Horner's cue from Honey I Shrunk the Kids "Ant Rodeo" or the other way around rather being that Goonies came out first. Just found that interesting.

What's interesting, I think, the many who don't like the Goonies like our 40 and plus age range. When I consider let's say some board members who are 60, when you think of what films they had as kids, it's almost laughable, Plan 9 from Outer Space, he he he hee, or even some of our older folks, like watching Camille Greta Garbo where it's VERY melodramatic, must of it. To each his own.

I think to really appreciate this film, you had to be in a certain age range when you first saw it. Me, I was 8 and to walk these kids, not rich, poor like me, find a map and go on a fun adventure, who WOULDN'T want to do that as a 6-14 year old age range?

I still really enjoy adventure films very much. The characters were fun, you knew them, they were heartfelt and funny. So many character today, if/when they die in a film, your like good riddance. I mean House of Wax remake, they couldn't kill Paris Hilton's character soon enough.

For a grown man to watch let's say the Goonies when it came out in 85, I can only imagine, they would hate it. It would be like me watching the Mighty Morfin Power Rangers film made several years ago, I never saw it, have no desire to and most likely wouldn't like it. I bet the younger folks who watched that love it and will always have fond memories.

I think it is neat, the one aspect, almost everyone is in agreement is the score, home run !!

Wow, I thought I was the only one who thought of this! I listened to the Goonies chase sample this morning and it's been playing in my head but for some reason, I mentally transition to the Honey music. I just happened, almost subconsciously.

On my way home today, I stopped by Target to pick up some CD cases to replace some cracked and scuffed ones in my collection.

Guess what I found in their stack of on-sale $5 t-shirts?

Actually, they had a stack of Goonies shirts of all sizes, as well as Star Wars (which I grabbed, I think its Al Williamson art! - http://img124.yfrog.com/img124/8942/hxzro.jpg) and a really neat pulp cover rendition of Ghostbusters.

W00t!

Like your picture. I took it during the Night Crossing album mixing sessions at Len Engels home in Bel Aire. More can be seen at www.jerrygoldsmithonline.com then click on the Spotlight section then on the Night Crossing Diary. Lots more pix. This was July/August 1987 and LA was hot, hot, hot.

Already sold out.

big grin

The hell you say!

I ordered this earlier and went back a few moments ago and it did NOT show sold out. 5000 is a lot of copies as explained in prior posts. Unless they guaranteed a large number of copies to other retailers who want to exploit the cult following I would assume this one might be around for a while. I might be wrong. I haven't been wrong yet today and am way over due.

I need to go on record here as a member of the over 40 crowd who actually LIKED Goonies when it first came out (I was in college at the time). And I still like it now. I guess it appealed to my sense of fun and adventure. There was also a nostalgia factor since I grew up in Oregon so the shots in and around Astoria and of the Oregon coast really made it a winner in my book.

I'm glad we're finally getting the score soundtrack after years of only having the Fratelli Chase cue on Dave Grusin's "Cinemagic" album. Whether Steiner's Don Juan music is included or not doesn't matter so much since it can be extracted from the Gerhardt suite. Steiner's music was only used during a couple of scenes anyway (nowhere near as much as it was used in Zorro the Gay Blade - which is another film I really wanted a soundtrack album for).

I can't wait to hear the rest of Grusin's score and imagine I'm watersliding into the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland.

First saw Goonies at a sneak preview back in 85. Liked it but like all the films Spielberg was involved in but not directing it seemed to be Spielberg Lite. An off brand. Greatest disappointment was when it failed to show up as a score release. If you like the Pirates ride and music the entire score (the ride lasts about 18 minutes) featuring the entire ride sequence and lots of other versions of yohoyohoapirateslifeforme are on a commemorative CD which is first rate. It does not contain the theme from Goonies. Nothing did until now. Thank You VS.
