I will be at the symposium too. The signings have never been part of the official schedule so that should not mean that there won't be one. However with Bramson in the morning and Horner in the early afternoon and Newman right in the middle of the program it seems rather difficult to fit one in unless everybody stays on for the Q & A. Well, see you at the symposium or at the restaurant. Have a nice trip to Vienna.

Helloooooo!!! I'll be landing in Vienna on Thursday afternoon, and am hoping to go to the Joe Dante event (THE HOWLING and SMALL SOLDIERS that night)... I'm planning on heading straight from the airport to the filmmuseum in order to try and get a ticket, hope there will still be some available! I hope to see some of you there, and / or at the Friday concert of course. Thor, does the fact that my name is on the first post of this thread mean that a place has been reserved for me at the meet-up? If so, great see you all there, if not ah well it's my own fault for not confirming my attendance sooner and I hope to see some of you about at the venue anyway.

I was at the symposium too. The James Horner talk was quite remarkable, at one point openly questioning his own place in the changed climate of contemporary Hollywood. It was getting so low in morals that the organizer actually intervened, and prompted Horner to tell anecdotes about James Cameron! Which Horner did, though a bit grudgingly. I saw several people taking notes, maybe someone from here, and can quote him? There was an audience question about Horner studying with György Ligeti, and Horner's recollections about that were fascinating. The "signing" was a disgrace: Horner, more than happy to sign as many autographs as he could, was literally shielded away and then dragged away by the organizers, clearly against his wishes. I was among the lucky few, as he signed my STAR TREK III Capitol LP in the tumult... I was able to chat a few worlds with David Newman - I am impressed how friendly and modest, even humble, he was both during his fascinating demonstration and his interactions with the audience. In the evening, Joe Dante. A born comedian! During his introduction to GREMLINS I was thinking, this is well-rehearsed comedy routine, but when the Q&A session began, he turned out to be great at improvisations, too. A GREMLINS III is being made without him? "I can't complain, as I'm the guy who started his career by ripping off JAWS." He signed by GREMLINS Geffen LP, already signed by Jerry Goldsmith, and mentioned that there are some crappy songs on this (the LP), but recently "they released the proper score". (Yeah, I thought, "they" released the proper score, but this led to the shutting down of the label.) One down, two to go. Today back to Vienna, for the Peter Gabriel concert!

That is a bit disappointing. Still, very much looking forward to it tonight.
