That's true, but he's quite resourceful. For example, he recently used leftover time with an orchestra and opera singers for a Wagner recording (can't remember which) to record his own opera GRENDEL -- to be released in the near future. Maybe he could do something similar for this?

Awesome! An official Grendel release is LONG overdue. I mean geesh, he was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in Music for it, and no release!
I've settled for an audience recording, but it's not exactly hi-fi.

I talked to him about this about a year ago, and he told me then it would probably take a year and half to get it out. So I think we'll have to wait 6 more months or so before it's out. At that point, they had finished the vocal tracks.

The original tracks for Citizen Kane. I'd still love a really good rerecording of the full score.

Of course there's an existing album but didn't M.V. say the complete Alien 3 score was in no condition to be released?

I know he has in the past. What confuses me about that is that they were able to release very acceptable versions of scores like "Warning Shot" and "Seconds" from less-than-ideal sources. I sampled the isolated score on the "Alien 3" blu-ray, and I'm not sure what's so wrong with it (though perhaps there are very ugly edits in it that I just hadn't heard).

All that said, I love the existing album, so I'm not sure I need a longer one.

Well, you have to be optimist; As I see it, only destroyed or lost scores will never be released, for the others, seems that you just have to wait for the composers to die or the rights to expire (that could mean more than a lifetime, though) or some interactions between different right holders leading to a situation were all rights end up in the same hands.

And that's limiting ourselves to just the legal ones.

The original tracks of Psycho.

I read this often, but it's out there somewhere. I have a rip of a Japanese laserdisc with the original score.

That being said:
The Road Warrior frown
Alien 3 frown

I have The Road Warrior on LP.

Although not orchestral, Dead Calm by Revell is rumored to be unreleasable--and that's a shame.

So I guess this would be the only case when getting this score on one of those unmentionable is something you can get away with or am I wrong? And by the way I do not own the unmentionable of this score (not yet that is).

I have The Road Warrior on LP.

The original album release (which I also own) is missing lots of cues.

The tapes for 80s cartoon classic THE MYSTERIOUS CITIES OF GOLD are in poor condition and beyond saving, according to the gent who did the recent album reissue.

I think multiple people have said that John Williams refuses to allow a release of his score for The Sugarland Express.

well, he won´t live forever.

What a crass way to put it.

Simply put the composer of Alien 3 is still alive. smile

As for the others on the list I made some have to do with politics, legal bs and/or missing elements.

In other words -- don't hold your breath.

Is Batman and Robin still an issue with Watertower?

Yeah, with the premiere Warners releases that have been coming out over the past year I thought this was no longer an issue...you think they'd be more willing to let you do it considering all the other Batman releases you've done, too.

Yavar

Actually, why Batman & Robin is in difficult status has nothing to do with WaterTower. I won't say anything beyond that.

Well, considering the Alien 3 comment from M.V., I'll go out on a limb and say that Goldenthal himself doesn't want Batman & Robin released. Pure speculation on my end, of course.

That isn't so. Goldenthal prepared a 50-minute program of score to be released in the wake of the songtrack, but as the latter didn't sell too well, the plans were scrapped.

Very much like to see the complete score of Night Moves (Michael Small) on CD. Unfortunately the tapes have not been found.

well, but still it is true. We would hardly see that many Goldsmith releases if he was still alive. I am quite curious who will get to Sugarland first...
