There was no good place to put this in the notes, but in case any of you would like to know the insanely complex mixed meter in which Fielding wrote what I call the "adventure theme," here's how it's notated in the "Locomotive Wreck" cue: 4/4 (1 bar) + 2/4 (1) + 3/4 (1) + 2/4 (1) + 3/4 (2) + 4/4 (1) + 2/4 (1) + 4/4 (2). Armchair conductors, eat your heart out!

Seeing as how FSM has given us so many great Western film scores among their 250 releases, this is a fitting ending for a wonderful run. The greatest Western ever made, one of the best Western scores ever, and Jerry Fielding's magnum opus.

This is now officially the score I have bought more copies of than any other... 2 LPs (wore the first one out) and now 4 different CD versions. Worth it though.

Thanks, Lukas for a great run! Thankfully we can still look forward to the work you are doing with other labels.

BTW: Thrilled that you picked my favorite line for the back cover quote:

"Let's go."
"Why not?" Awesome.

Runner up for me would be:

Angel:"Mexico Lindo!"

Lyle: "I don't see nothing so lindo about it.
Tector: "Just looks like more of Texas, far as I'm concerned"

It is sad that i discovered SAE site - and FSM in the process too late...it was frantical search for the music from RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY - it was an instant buy - from SAE - and my first buy from both...when i look back - almost half of the cd's i bought where FSM edition - many of my favourite soundtracks were to be found here...WHERE EAGLES DARE, THE LIFE & TIMES OF JUDGE ROY BEAN, SCARAMOUCHE - to name but a few...and now WILD BUNCH - when i saw the newsletter - i didn't hesitate for a moment - IMMEDIATELY bought - despite of me already having Warner edition, and separate (gray) edition of Jerry Fieldings estate (or something) - always was combining the two - complete gray album + songs from Warner album (La Golondrina and others) - to have as complete as possible version of this fantastic soundtrack...even more i promised myself not to spand any many this month on anything not really necessary....but either i was fooling myself - or THIS WAS NECESSARY regarldless of anything said before...i love Jerry Fielding - and adore THE WILD BUNCH movie and soundtrack alike - for me they are so interwoven together that whenever i listen to the music - until a while a go i was doing it almost every day - i see the scenes from the picture as if i am watching the movie at the moment.
But now, my feelings are mixed - am very happy about the soundtrack - but am truely sad to see FSM go...I wish the best of luck to all you guys because of all the exquisite moments i was having by listening CD's under your label - made with so much knowledge, taste and love, above all...
THANK YOU!!

p.s. 19 FSM CD's between 1/5/2011 - 3/12/2013...

So how many copies are there??! Back cover says 2000....

It says "This pressing" is limited to 2000.
The next pressing will likely be called "BEYOND THE END OF THE LINE EDITION", to distinguish it from the first pressing.

Interesting choice for the final curtain. Very sad, but hey, my listening pleasure has been BOOSTED not inconsiderably from finding out this label. To everyone at FSM - Bon Chance.

P.S. I think it's 35 FSM CDs thus far.

This is a fantastic final release which I will definitely be purchasing. Would never have dreamed a three disc set was possible. I'm a little tickled that though this was supposed to come out almost a year ago originally, since it got pushed to 2013 it is in fact labeled as "Vol. 16 No. 1" so the final volume of FSM is only one title (and the previous volume was only five).

One other note: I noticed that the final count for FSM releases was correctly changed to 250: "250 Golden and Silver Age Classics on CD since 1996... and counting! Exclusive distribution by SCREEN ARCHIVES ENTERTAINMENT."

But shouldn't the "...and counting!" part be taken out at this point? frown

It's like yesterday since Stagecoach was released in 1998. So much has changed in those years. I will miss the FSM cd's.

Great ending to a great run. I hoped Lukas would release something he enjoyed himself.

I've only started to get into Fielding in the past two years or so. He's not the most accessible composer in the world, but his writing is very intelligent and now that I've gotten over the learning curve, so to speak, I've found much to enjoy. I'm not terribly familiar with The Wild Bunch, but have heard it's a masterpiece so this one is definitely ordered!

Lukas et al.'s FSM releases over the years have been a real wealth of excellent film music. The most astonishing thing to me, is when I look back over my collection of FSM disks (50 and counting) is not just that there's so much good music but that there was so much good music I was completely unaware of. When FSM started out with their limited editions, I was in grade 10 and just starting to get into film music and I had much to learn. If I were to make a top 10 FSM list, 5 would be from Holy Grail releases (Horner's Treks, Goldsmith's Gremlins, for example) and another 5 would be from scores that I was essentially unfamiliar with and bought on the strength of the soundclips.

The folks at FSM have done a great service to the film music community over the years and I hope that FSM will exist in some form, be it through the online magazine, the message board or at least some of these classic releases that stay in print, so that the next generation of film music fans can discover the same wealth we've enjoyed for the past decade and a half.

So here's to Lukas and everyone else at FSM and Screen Archives! You've done a hell of a job and I'm forever grateful.

Chris.

I was curious myself I ordered my copy later Monday but surprised it hasn't shipped yet. I just assumed it was already in stock. At least I paid thru paypal so it is paid and out of the way so to speak.

The liner notes are not up on FSM yet, it seems.

This is an epic release to finish things off. Very nice.

Hi, Lukas. I was wondering when you might be posting the additional liner notes for this release (which should be arriving in my mail box any day). Thanks.

Thanks to John Takis and Jeff Eldridge for their great work on this - and thanks to Jeff E. who has done all the online note posting and editing, in fact.
