If any of the forthcoming releases are from Universal studios, I'd like to see:

"The List Of Adrian Messenger" (Goldsmith)

"Airport" (Newman)

"Cape Fear" (Herrmann)

"Marnie" (Herrmann)

A 4th installment of "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour"

ANY television music by Moross ("Wagon Train") Williams ("Kraft Suspense Theater") or Herrmann ("The Virginian" "Companions In Nightmare" "Chrysler Theater" "Convoy" "Kraft Suspense Theater")

That ought to keep the folks over at Varese busy for awhile!

J.

Good list. Add Dracula(Williams)

I agree with "governor" that Varese Clubs Releases are not the "events" they used to be (La-La and Intrada have lately cornered that market); they had a good run of "event-ness" but now the torch has been passed.

...Still, there is at least one title per year of Club releases that I buy, so I am curious, and will be checking early in the a.m. of Oct 22 (but won't be surprised if I don't buy anything - more surprised if I buy one or more titles; Time will tell).

I think they are still events and I get excited for them. Let's say that you are only incline to buy one MAYBE two of their new releases, isn't that OK? I mean considering what is coming out for so many other labels, if the only time you get your kicks is on new release's then, you may want to get out more, LOL. NO ONE knows what Varese will do, that's what I like, they give no clues at all.

So you may save a few pennies, isn't that good? Varese will most likely give us some cool stuff as they always do. Even when they have released stuff that I wasn't interested in, few and far between, I got a kick out of reading the other comments from other film music friends on how happy they were that this or that score is finally released. Don't you guys ever feel that way? If you aren't interested in a certain score, do you ever feel happy for someone else that it was released? I do.

Just to clarify -- No "new" "older" Trek stuff until Nov of next year... that's why we are scrambling to get our TOS set out by year's end. Only "ST Into Darkness" merchandise in 2013.

This is very common in Hollywood. We had to delay releases like X2 and Planet of the Apes (Elfman) to make way for the newer films that were released recently.

As for DS9, its looking like we can release it very early January 2013 as long as we can get it all signed off on by the Holidays.

MV

Don't know how likely Nemesis is possible, but if early January is the deadline before the lock, hopefully GNP's Insurrection can make it in time.

I'd love to have an expanded Nemesis, just for that great battle preparation montage cue.

Also: we're close to Halloween, so I'd expect a horror score thrown in. Williams's Dracula would be amazing.

Yikes. Gives that silly title an entirely new meaning. Trekking into Darkness, indeed. On the plus side, at least our wallets will get a year's break. Or 11 month break, anyway... watch LLL release a set of Enterprise music on the first Tuesday of November 2013.

Anyway, I too hope that VS defies all our expectations and actually releases the complete Nemesis. With Halloween coming up, I wouldn't mind seeing Gremlins 2, either.

If it is Nemesis, that would be great. But I would like to point out that the Trek score release schedule has ALOT to do with the upcoming film. Because once the months close in up until the new film's release, Paramount will put a freeze on certain Star Trek products so that the focus will be on the new film and even though its all Star Trek and all the products share the same name, they want no competition with the new movie. They want the focus to be only on the new film, for as long as they can. But...I may be wrong. I admit that.

There are Always...Possiblities.

Superman1701, I don't know if anyone else caught the trailing WOK reference there, but I did. Well placed!

My head is spinning....Nemesis this month? Insurrection later this year or early next??? Regardless, DS9 firmly slated for JANUARY??!!

Except for MV's mention of DS9, nothing's been confirmed. If Varese releases Nemesis next week, I will, to borrow an old phrase, eat my hat! smile

Yeah, I know, didn't word that clearly. I won't know what to do with myself if we get Nemesis - I think I'd look forward to that more than Generations if that's even possible! Ah, to be swimming in Star Trek music...

Titles that would please me:

OBSESSION complete
MARNIE
CAPE FEAR
COMPANIONS IN NIGHTMARE
LIST OF ADRIAN MESSENGER
ENDLESS NIGHT
PIT AND THE PENDULUM (Baxter)

CAPE FEAR is coming to Blu Ray in January, so maybe that one is a possibility?

Would like them all except for the Baxter, however my expectations from Varese are at an all time low.

They did a Bernard Herrmann box set. How about an Alfred Newman box set of previously unreleased material from the chief of 20CF's music department? If not that; how about the series CENTENNIAL or Maurice Jarre's RESURRECTION or Jerry Goldsmith's THE LIST OF ADRIAN MESSENGER? Once again I expect to be disappointed. I forgot to mention THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

I hear you drivingmd, but the vast thrill that used to accompany Varese Club days are long gone and the thrills are felt by fewer and fewer - I have gone from buying at least 8-9 club titles a year (the good old days) to buying 1 or 2 a year maybe; they are not the "events" they used to be.

Doesn't mean they can't come back, but the last few years.... meh.

To your query of can't we be happy for others, of course, but in the good old days the released made many happy, now there are fewer happy - the happy few, the band of brothers, who stand with me on St. Varese daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Sorry, Shakespeare moment then).

I always hope for something thrilling, and I'm sure one or two will trickle on in, but I stand by my contention that La-La and Intrada have stolen the Varese fire. Still give VS credit; they still put out the most scores of any label a year, and God bless them for that!

Very well said. One cant compete with that one. And I agree. We can only hope that something very exciting can come.

Yes, they put out a lot of scores . That is true . Most of today's composers don't come up with music that appeals to me. Horror and action scores are definitely not my preference.

I've been waiting for this. Hopefully something horror-related. Hopefully something really good. I think I'll flail now.

CD CLUB:

Starship Troopers: Deluxe Edition (Complete 2CD set limited to 1000 copies because of rights issues)
RoboCop 3: Deluxe Edition (Complete score, limited to 3000 copies)
Demolition Man: Deluxe Edition (I miss unlimited deluxe editions)
Star Trek: Nemesis: Deluxe Edition (Not that I think it's coming, but I can dream, right?)

ENCORE:

Enemy Mine
The Serpent and the Rainbow

I just dont get it..What is it about the "obsession" about the STAR TREK scores.
I like them too, but why bother to have another one?
I just looked it up there are over 50!!!! different releases of that franchise already!

Who needs them?

You might as well ask what's up with the "obsession" over Star Wars, Superman, or any other iconic set of scores. People want things done until they're done right. If we could get them done that way the first time, there wouldn't be 50 releases. Now that they're finally getting the proper treatment, the book is being closed... until reissues roll around.

And just because there are 50 releases doesn't mean you need to buy all of them. I'm not holding onto multiple copies. I've sold the original versions of II, III, V, and plan to sell VI, VII, and VIII ASAP.
