How long is the whole score or have you heard the album master "only"?

Only heard the album, which has a few tweaks to be made but is nearing finalized. Will hear complete soon but am utterly captivated by the album, which is terrific -- very action-heavy towards the middle, a few beautiful delicate passages, some ethereal dreamy cues, some suspense, very epic towards the end ("Sword of Vengeance" hits insane heights of epicness and power). Doesn't go overboard with Japanese ethnic orchestration, it's there but not blunt force...except at times some Blade 2-esque percussive action music!

Harmonica...

I've just pre-ordered.

It's pretty cool. Haven't seen the film obviously but the harmonica seems to represent the lone westerner in a faraway culture kind of thing.

Damn, that sounds friggin awesome! Can't wait to hear it! Really seems Beltrami, together with Brian Tyler, will be the composer of 2013

Riley, you mention Blade II one more time and I will pre-order a second copy. That still stands as my favorite Beltrami score (no offense to Hellboy or 3:10 to YUMA!) and if Varese did an expanded release I would literally do this...

Haha, hate to mention it again, but along with thickly-orchestrated and -arranged percussion elements, some of the brass blasts also reminded me of Blade 2, even down to some timpani rolls that encouraged more B2 flashbacks...if you love the score you'll know what I mean. Get ready for Wolverine dude, it's your cup of sake!

Another ethnic aspect to the score is the ultratalented Sara Andon's flute performances, which are gorgeous in some of the prettier parts of the score, and subtly evoke Japan without going into common filmscore caricature.

I'll second Blade 2 as being my favorite Beltrami score (along with the other del Toro scores), so consider this one pre-ordered! big grin

Correction to my above earlier post: Chris Bleth played Bansuri flute on Wolverine, and Sara Andon played regular flute at the sessions.

Wow, they're still misspelling katana as kantana?

We don't need any more CD edtiions with misspellings! Zoinks!

And 'Vengence' should have an 'A' in there... hopefully the misspelling is just on the site with the tracklistings, not on the actual artwork.

My most anticipated score of this year!

How I wish I was not at work at the moment so I can listen to this...

Disappointed from the samples. I'm not hearing the Japanese flute I was expecting. And the action cues are almost all on the higher pitch, which I just can't associate with a heavy, bulky character like Wolverine. The harmonica is a nice idea though.

Maybe the full album will allow this to shine. Hopefully.

Listened to some of the samples today - and I really couldn't find any that jumped out at me. A bit disappointed... I probably won't see the film in theaters (doesn't look good imo). Hope to get some more reviews/impressions from folks.
