Another TV Movie that went into production just a year or so before BORDERLINE, and which mirrors the shift in Mellé's sensibilities at the time, is A VACATION IN HELL. Sorry I can't give you a direct link - either my computer is broken, or I simply never got the hang of it. But it's worth the trouble going there yourselves. Anyway, all that stuff is a bit like some of BORDERLINE too (he said, clumsily steering things back on-topic). A Vacation in Hell: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2s3vu3nfMc

Thanks Simon and Thomas for those direct links. I don't expect anyone to sit through something like A VACATION IN HELL, especially if it's on YouTube, but it's rewarding to dip in and hear how BORDERLINE would really be the culmination of everything Gil was doing in the last few years of the '70s. Ah yes Thomas, THE QUESTOR TAPES, a score which is the epitome of everything I love about the composer's work, and from around the time which is just about my favourite period of his TV scoring. Unfortunately the quality isn't very good on that particular link, but yes, right after the Main Titles (absolutely spine-tingling) you can "hear" (with a bit of luck) his KOLCHAK theme - the churning ostinato of which would later turn up again in... BORDERLINE!

If there's any justice, the music from the KOLCHAK series (both that of Mellé and Jerry Fielding) will make it to a CD one day. (Along with a separate disc of Cobert's music from the two films). I love Mellé's KOLCHAK theme.

Does anyone know if there is a listing online of the musicians who played on Borderline? I really dig this new Intrada release. I hope that we will see more Gil Melle releases on the horizon. Aren't they listed on the inlay card or booklet? In any case, I'll be picking this one up based on your thumbs up alone. Your suggestions have turned out to be winners every single time. Here is a link in PDF from the AFM of the musicians who played on the BORDERLINE sessions in LA. http://intrada.net/docs/Borderline_AFM_Credits.pdf

Yep, and some other stores in Europe still list it. Rosebud Banda Sonora is the place I usually buy from (Valencia, Spain). Tarantula Records in Germany has it listed too, I believe. Depends where you're based, Mr Aficionado. You might have to weigh up the pricing. BUT let me add that this is a superb score. I've said it all throughout this thread and I'm saying it again. Superb! Hope you get it and enjoy it!

Thanks for the suggestions. I must be blind, but where the hell is Borderline found on Tarantula Records site? I can't find a search button or him listed as a composer. If all else fails, I have an extra sealed copy for a decent price. You can email me: japhillips219@msn.com James Phillips
