My Brothers Grimm arrive in the mail at the weekend. What a great sound considering the movie is 50 years old.. Amazing sound from the 35mm multi channel tapes.. Well done to all concerned..
Received mine last week and listened to it right away. What a wonderful treat!!! I am once again bowled over by the incredible CINERAMA recording techniques and sound quality. NOTHING sounds that good today!
As an adjunct, I highly reccomend the documentary CINERAMA ADVENTURE wish is included in the HOW THE WEST WAS WON boxed dvd (not the blue ray version?). In it you will hear some fine examples of the CINERAMA sound also. Heartfelt and very nostalgic it is too!

And very fine it is, too (Cinerama Adventure) - one of the best documentaries about the cinema (IMHO) The part when Lowell Thomas says "Ladies and gentlemen, this is...Cinerama" and the tabs pull back, the screen fills - breath-taking! The CD is grand indeed. Also I wanted to thank CH-CD for posting the super footage of the world premiere in Denver. I have so many fond memories of the Cooper Cinerama there -- the footage was quite a treat. Thank you.

Me, too, John - great CD and I just have to commiserate on the Cooper. I didn't see any Cinerama movies there, but enjoyed big-screen movies like STAR WARS, CAPRICORN ONE and many others at that theater (and of course the Century 21 and the Continental, which still survives in Denver). Among the last movies I saw there were CLIFFHANGER and GETTYSBURG. Those were the days!

The Cooper looks like it was a wonderful theater, and the perfect setting for the full Cinerama experience. Is it still there?
Just received this (I think my copy got delayed by the volcano ash cloud!) and what a "wonderful" melodic score it is - handsomely presented in stunning sound quality. FSM has done a fantastic job in preserving all the music from a film which has largely been disregarded - now if only Warner Bros would restore the roadshow version. I always regretted never seeing it in Cinerama when I had the chance.
I remember that scene being particularly exciting in the theater. It still holds up rather well after all these years. Digital 3-D, eat your heart out!

I had the opportunity to purchase a copy of this release a few weeks ago. I have to say that it has quickly become one of my favorites. I am a Harline fan with a decent selection of his works but this is at the top of the list. It is a real pick-me-up to listen to and I enjoy it immensely. It was well worth the purchase.

I did contact CineSavant and also followed up with some research of my own,
On his Facebook page last Wednesday, Arnold Leibovit (producer of the Puppetoon documentary on George Pal's work) noted that restoration work is underway. Documentarian Harrison Engle, who says he is making a short film on the restoration, added that basic scans are being done at Warner Brothers Motion Picture Imaging, and that David Strohmaier is involved with the project.
Just as CineSavant was cautious in his original statement, I cannot confirm the veracity of any of the above. Obviously, Warner Bros. will not release any public information until the project is completed and available to the public in some form or other.
