[Edit] I have had to go and superglue some of the box edges where they were less robust. Just a heads-up on that one.
My FOTR and ROTK boxes both arrived damaged (thanks CD Universe and Amazon). The corners of the boxes had torn apart, so that I had to reglue them (using a toothpick to spread the glue) and gently reattach them. Fortunately, the "weathered book" aesthetic sort of works with the damage, so the tears don't really stand out. Not the most robust design unfortunately.
I'd happily buy just the Blu-ray audio discs on their own if they were released that way.
So what does this do to the absurd prices of the original releases? Did anyone ever pay those? I remember seeing the original releases in store but didn't want to afford the high prices (like 50 € or something). Later I saw what people are demanding on ebay. Now they are back in stock. But will this madness end? Are any of you buying the re-releases in larger quantities to then sell them when they are out of stock again? Just wondering.
"THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS is the first of in a series of three releases that will also feature The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) on color vinyl for the first time. More information on the series of releases will be available at a later date."
ps One final question about ORIGINAL albums. I found that there is 2 possible solutions - buy original CDs or so called "Complete Trilogy". But I read that some people are not satisfy with that "Complete trilogy" sound. Any thoughts? Thanks

My only quibble is that the chorus in quite a few cues is subdued - for example the Khazad Dum sequence (FOTR) or the Glamdring sequence (TTT). I was listening to the Lord of the Rings Soundtrack Live Orchestra on youtube and felt it was nearer the mark, although just not up front enough.
[edit] I believe these new releases are not remastered?
I couldn't remember what I originally paid when I bought each of these, so I looked it up in Amazon and back in 2007, I bought FOTR and TTT brand new for $35 each and ROTK for $50.
Now the decision is if it's worth double dipping simply to buy the Blu Ray. I have heard that the original DVD's option of the stereo, lossless tracks will be comparable to this. Alas, only time will tell when we have people who can listen to and compare both and let us know if there's a noticeable difference.

That box is just the 3 original discs together. There is no difference from the individual releases at all.

I know it. And I read that discs from that box had some sonic problems, which original CDs doesn't have. That's why I ask - is it true? If it's true, I'll buy original CDs separately (yes, it will be bit expensive, comparing with nice price of that set, but at least I'll have no problems with sound).

As Thomas said: They're just repackaged. The sound of the albums is maybe a little bit fantasy-wet but that is not necessarily a point of criticism.
$80 is the manufacturer's suggested retail price, but most releases that are wide enough to get dropped on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc. etc. are sold for significant discount from MSRP.
For instance, the Justice League Blu-ray is being sold for $24.96 on Amazon, even though MSRP is $35.99. WHAT A BARGAIN!
I'm so glad this has been re-issued for those who might have missed it originally...I still treasure they 3 LOTR sets, it's so rare for soundtrack/score fans to really get a deluxe treatment like this.
Will be interesting to hear if there is any sonic difference in the new sets, I just went and checked, wow some crazy prices those old versions go for....
