Honestly the truth is there are some folks here and there that need to be shown the board etiquettes and most of all respect. There is an infamous resident on this board whom many of us would like to have him banned. But for the jwb guy, I think Doug over reacted. The the question was indeed non-sequitir and idiotic but in a truly innocent way. Sometimes folks put in comments where the emotion is simply miss read. I think Doug should be the bigger man and have him back in the fold. JWB fan should apologize too since he has been edging the good folks at the label for quite some time. We are a small community and should try to be cohesive together. And a hug would be nice too. smile

"What does that mean? Infamous?"

To be fair, questioning the validity of a Deep Rising expansion isn't exactly questioning Doug's life's work, especially since the guy who posed that question is apparently an avid Intrada customer.

You don't question the validity of an expansion to a producer's face when they have already completed the expansion at considerable cost in time, money, and effort.

"We worked really hard on this release! Enjoy!"
"Why'd you do that? I don't want it."
"..."

It's deeply rude. Fullstop. JWB got what they deserved.

Back to DEEP RISING: I'm buying it!

According to imdb.com deep rising is not a disney producion, or I miss something? In fact in my copy does not say anything it's a production disney

I'm probably on my own here, but nothing interests from Intrada so far this year (incl. next week). It's my fault, not theirs, it's just that after 15 years of great releases I'm down to about 15-20 (doable) titles I'd really love. In fact no purchases at all so far this year!

What are those 15-20 titles?

Ha, thank you. I have about 240 soundtrack CD's & I've got rid of about the same amount where they just didn't do it for me, so if I never bought another soundtrack I'd be OK. But I'd really like to buy a few others, I've never bought less than three Intrada's in a year, so I hope the second half of the year has some goodies, but why buy a soundtrack CD just for the sake of it.

And over a third of what I'd like would just be CD releases of LP's.

Exactly. It's predictable that people posting rude, provocative questions always play innocent behind the "It was just a simple question!" excuse. "Are you a child molester?" is also a simple question, but I think most here would object to it.

"Do we need [this score]" is actually worse than saying "I hate [this score]," because it says "Why would you even bother with this?" without even the courtesy of stating a creative opinion. Quite clearly, they wouldn't have done it if they didn't think it worthwhile, either to fans or themselves. Was there any possibility in JWB's mind that Doug's response would be "Hey, I never thought about that, maybe we shouldn't have bothered!"?

And really, do you believe that every single release should be made just for you?

Was banishment deserved? It strikes me as slightly extreme, but that's up to the owners of the board. But JWB's feigned innocence is just plain dishonest.

Cool, another Goldsmith! I have also been buying a lot of Williams cds lately, so I am falling behind with Goldsmith a little. And now there's another Conti tomorrow! But keep em coming, I love this!smile

I never bought or owned the Deep Rising CD, as I thought the film was dross and the score low-tier Goldsmith (it's from my least favourite Goldsmith period).
A mate did me a 2 or 3 CD compilation of latter-day Goldsmith scores that I never picked-up or bothered with (stuff like Along Came A Spider, Hollow Man, Fierce Creatures, Last Castle, U.S Marshals, The Haunting, Sum Of All Fears), some of which I loaded up to my mp3 player further down the road.
Anyway, with all the fuss and hoo-hah over this impending, expanded release, I searched it out on my player, only to find a sum total of 5 minutes represented (Leila's Gone and the title track - End Title?). It was nice enough and yes, better sounding now after the years of drudge we've slogged through, but I wonder if 65 minutes of it will curry favour with me, even after all these years.
Fortunately, said mate (an ordained Church Of Goldsmith disciple) will buy it, so I will give his copy a blast to see if late years Goldsmith now sounds like 70's Williams to me wink

Haven't had the time or the reason to post on this board in a long time. But reading all this I felt the need to express my own eternal gratefulness for Intrada, for all of their releases, for reminding everyone that there's art in film music and it often comes in wildly different styles and sounds. I remember with fondness the few times I was able to visit their old San Francisco shop and meet the cheerful crew.

As for DEEP RISING there's a few cues on the old album I absolutely - truly - definitely love, (FYI: I was born in '64 and began falling in love with music in film in the early part of the 70's so it's not a generational thing) and I'm eagerly looking forward to this expansion. The score often shows imagination, development and variation, lots of Goldsmith's trademarked energy and has proven memorable. Not every cue has to be a work of genius in every score you know. But there's much to enjoy here

Keep up the fantastic work, Intrada!

I see what you mean about the rudeness of it. Still, I wouldn't have thought one or two naysayers on one CD could affect a successful label owner like Doug. But then I'm not a label owner myself, am I cool

Looks to me like the comment in question on the Intrada board was a case of the "straw that broke the camel's back". I've read various comments over the years and there seems to be more negative ones with each passing year. If I was in Doug's place, haven gone through all the time and energy to please people by making albums available, only to see more and more criticism: the kind that doesnt read as constructive, but often cold and harsh, I too might in a moment of emotion get to a boiling point. It would be like the family cook getting more lip for whats wrong with the meals time and time again and one day snapping. That shits gotta hurt.

Some people dont know or care to think first about what they choose to project. Theres a lot of people on these boards that dont appear to see album producers as people with feelings, nor do they see how small scale our little community it is. We are a unigue community, but given the nature of Internet Etiquit, a select few dont appear to see those who make available what we've all longed for for YEARS ( and may not otherwise get to experience) as humam beings. These folks may not likely speak to so directly to in person, unless they were sociopaths.

I have a lot of respect and empathy for Doug and the gang. Despite rampant criticism toward them in cold, short and sometimes blatantly aggressive ways, they STILL keep on course.

By all means offer constructive criticism, but check yourself first and dont be a dick!

Very well said
