I think Josh Mitchell's post has a point here. Those who have the promo may not want to get rid of it as I thought I would be doing. The new set of course has its sonic merits but I do prefer the sound of the promo at times. And one key moment for me is not even there on the new set, let alone dialled out. The opening of "Holmes in Pursuit" from the Promo features aggressive clattering percussion. The same cue (half way through "It's You") doesn't have it, which is a shame.

Check your track title on the promo there.

Too bad they used a different take of that cue instead of the take they used on the promo and in the film. I think it's one of the most powerful moments in the music and it's not on the official CD.

When listening to this score, I often ponder how awesome it would have been if Broughton would have scored one, if not all, of the (non Williams) Harry Potter movies! Just seems like it would have been a great fit. This is an old comment, but I agree completely. I STILL think of Young Sherlock Holmes in terms of Harry Potter, as I listened to it almost exclusively (over and over again) while reading the first Harry Potter book. Then I had SEX with a WOMAN...... Sorry, sorry, I don't know why that's making me laugh so hard right now. Anyway, what a good score.

Shaun, as someone who's had sex before I implicitly trust your judgment; do you prefer the new album edits or the more film-centric presentation on the promo?

In the words of a Seinfeld character, Jon Lovitz, "Good for you, jack".

If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the arrangement on the new version. I'm no fan of giant monster cues, as you know. Oh wait, is that the joke?
