Has anybody received Camille 2000 from Camille 3000 by way of ear?
I received an email this morning from Camille 3000 letting me know my order had shipped. Since I am in the US, it may be another week or so before I have it in hand.

I was lucky enough this past week to score a handful of Italian soundtrack 7" records, including a few Piccionis! One of them is a 1974 release of "Firestar Express / Forse Eri Tu / St. Francis In Katmandu" [CBS 2775] with vocals by Catherine Howe. The real draw for me on this one is the instrumental "Firestar" which was the theme used in the 1963 film "Il Diavolo". This seems to be a newer recording.
I also got "Chi Dice Donna Dice Donna" from 1976 [Rizzoli Film Records RFR 552]. The flip side, "Svezia" is fantastic! It's an instrumental, very much like the "Once and Again" theme from "La Volpe Dalla Coda Di Velluto". I can only hope the full soundtrack might someday be released.

I pre-ordered "Il Mondo di Notte" direct from Camille 3000 and received it last week (I am in the US). Another winner! Lots of variety on this soundtrack -- some jazzy, some exotica-tinged, some vocal tracks. A quality product just as wonderful as the releases from our other "specialty labels."
I agree - Camille 3000's digi-pak on Piccioni's 1959 Il mondo di notte is a quality product!
Got my copy from Dusty Groove earlier in July and it's great to have a pre-'60s Piccioni album in stereo (although some of the bonus tracks sound mono to me).
Curiously, the country of origin for this disc is credited as Great Britain @ soundtrackcollector.com

Great about Il Mondo di Notte (1959). I have the LP but will certainly appreciate a clean copy.
In fact, this is more than just a clean copy of the LP as the tapes for the CD came from Piccioni´s private archive. The original tapes that Sugar/CAM has on the other hand are only in mono.
So this is great news that Sugar have given their permission that those private tapes in stereo could indeed be used for the new CD. Something which is not as easy as it may seem and which might therefore be a precedent for other such cases:
"The original album was issued in mono vinyl and contained fourteen track selections performed by Piero's big band, choir and orchestra and also features some great vocals by one the composer’s favourite singers, Lydia MacDonald. This superb score is re-issued for the very first time on CD and for the first time includes ten previously unreleased tracks from the Maestro's private and original tape collection, and is here presented in stereo!"
Unfortunately, those stereo tapes have quite a bit of distortion even after restoration - no doubt this is a reason why it took so long for Piccioni's personal tapes to finally arrive onto disc.
Has anybody noticed that cue #13 [Rapha Temporel (formerly "Lo Striptease Dell'Amaca" on the LP)] is a theme which Piccioni recycled into track #5 of Scacco alla regina?

One Piccioni I have not yet explored is CADAVERI ECCELLENTI (Illustrious Corpses), could this be similar "Jazzy" to L'ASSASSINO?
I have the GDM CD for years, but I listen to it very infrequently ... it had never been a fave with me.

Half the album (as I recall it, not having heard it in years) is source music cues of the big band variety.

Is music for Mauro Bolognini's La giornata balorda published?
Since that title isn't on the listing that Stefan provided years ago on unreleased Piccioni from the C.A.M. vaults, I expect that La giornata balorda is no longer extant.

LA GIORNATA BALORDA nowadays belongs to Universal Music Publishing in Italy - they certainly don´t have any original tapes for this score from 1960 anymore - and was never part of the CAM catalogue. However, Piccioni himself had private tapes of almost all his scores (only a few titles were missing like IL GOBBO for example) and therefore i suppose that he also had the ones for GIORNATA BALORDA. As to the rights situation, it would probably be possible for an Italian label to use those private tapes for a CD release, but on the other hand it is not a very well-known film and the Italian labels are certainly much too busy with releasing official titles from Sugar´s CAM catalogue.

I didn't think La giornata balorda would be in the C.A.M. archives, but I'm hoping now that copies of the master tapes may exist in Piccioni's private collection.
Would it be possible, one wonders, if Jason Piccioni could disclose an inventory of all the titles his father had kept?
Not only the Italian labels are interested in Piccioni music: Kronos, Saimel, Quartet & Music Box ...

I assume there would still be rights issues to be worked out, but it's very heartening to see that tapes still exist for my much-wanted "Il Diavolo" and "Chi Dice Donna" (of which I recently got a 7" original release, mentioned a few posts back).
The Beat release "Bello, Onesto ..." adds 10 tracks to the original GDM CD Club release for a total of 28 tracks.
"Un Italiano ..." is another good one; I have the VeritaNote with 25 tracks but will be happy to get the Beat reissue for the 5 additional tracks!
I've also picked up the recently released Spettro LP of "Le Altre." I would never complain about getting "too much" Piccioni, but the 2-CD Beat Records release from a few years back -- I will very hesitatingly say -- did seem a little "overstuffed." The Spettro LP whittles the soundtrack down to a lean 42 minutes or so and is a very nice presentation. (I'm not aware that this soundtrack was released back in the day, so I'm assuming that the tracks used were chosen by Spettro?)

I think that purplemonkeydishwasher, Ag^Janus, wayoutwest, myself, and many others should all co-ordinate a trip to Italy to visit Piccioni's studio collection, the Lavagnino archives, the Savina estate, etc. and make plans to issue all these unreleased recordings onto our future collectively-owned label.
