Talk about an ungrateful crowd who apparently expect all items they want to cost them only pennies.

Your being a little harsh. $225 plus shipping is a lot for some people and they may have a hard time coming up with the cash for this set. In the perfect world I wish it was half the price. But at the end of the day the company has to give it a retail price THEY can live with. I also believe in the old saying, if there is a will there is a way. Cut out other expenses between now and November and one should be able to save up enough money for their "holy grail".

Since the party preventing the set has relented, I don't really see why they would choose to call them out for blame in the liner notes.

We're not sure what the situation is. But it does have a happy ending and it would be nice to know how it came about.

I certainly hope any negativity would be omitted.

Not harsh at all. $224.98 divided by 15 is $14.99 per CD before shipping. Remember a decade or more ago when GNP and Label X were the only way to get TOS music on CD?

If you bought them new back then, you paid a few dollars more than $14.99 a CD before shipping.

Agreed. This is a very reasonable cost. The 6000 set limit also seems pretty reasonable. Hopefully everyone that wants it will get a chance to pick this up, unlike the similarly priced Herrmann at Fox set from last year. Compare this with the ridiculously overpriced Elfman box and it's a great value, especially given the wealth of previously unreleased material in this set.

You're probably right, maybe I've just had far too many years on this board of reading posts of unwarranted, panicked bitching. People have now been forewarned enough to plan and save their dollars in time for the late November release and, if we're being realistic, I think copies of this set will remain available far into 2013. It will be popular and LLL will probably sell at least half this run of 6000 during the initial weeks, but I'm willing to bet that fans will plenty of during the subsequent months in 2013 to save and then purchase.

Agreed. And as you said with a 6000 print run, ppl should have plenty of time to save up for this set. Even if it takes 6-12 months.

It is a lot of money, of course, and money is tight for most of us. I just have a hard time believing that anybody truly thought that a 15 disc set premiering so much music, none of which is in the public domain, packaged lavishly with a 100-page booklet, could somehow cost $7 per CD. I don't see how that could be realistic.

I know, you were talking about a perfect world, not a realistic world. I certainly don't blame anybody for gulping at the price. I do wonder how anybody could be legitimately surprised, though.

It mildly amuses me that some are upset now that there is a set price but didn't really make noises when it was muted it would be between $200-300.

My only "quibble" is to those thinking $225 is too much; for those of us shipping internationally we are looking at more like $275-300 depending on postage & how much customs wants to charge. (Vat,Import Duty, Customs Handling Fees & Post service handling fees)

.... The Soundtrack CD market is different from the pop music market. Soundtracks are usually limited quantities priced at $20 a cd (why that price, I dunno). .

I do.
it's called 'price fixing"

they arent the same thing in context - that's an adjective modifying a noun. Like "what a stupid jackass." See what I mean?

I am an Organian to your Denebian Slime Devil. You are a most UN-Federation type individual, Mr. Marshall. The Great Bird of the Galaxy is spinning in his grave at your lack of tact.

Here's an alternative musical offering of a 172-CD set for $237.45, new.
That's about $1.30 a disc. Nice packaging too. And over 400 pages of notes in two books. Of course, it's not Mullendore or Kaplan, but what does one expect for just a little over one-dollar-a-disc? Shipping is... $2.98.
