On the one hand that sucks. On the other Yay for you I'm curious, if you'll answer and I'd understand if you don't, why you felt 1200 was the number to go for over 1000, 1500 or 2000. I'd have imagined 1500 would still shift without leaving you too much stock lying around BUT still give those that might have been away a chance to still get it. The magic/art of choosing quantities is quite a mystery. It's always a mystery - I look at what we've done, what others are doing, and the market and I make a decision. I've done several 1500 copy releases, and the later ones haven't sold out and they are titles that absolutely should have sold out instantly and would have several years ago before the whole 80s thing took over soundtrack collecting (believe me, that is coming to an end). But there's a curious mindset that has happened and the number keeps getting lowered for that mindset. It used to be if it was 3000 units for most titles everyone felt they could wait and wait and wait. Then that became 2500, then 2000 and now it's 1500. Everyone just sits and you sell less and it takes even longer. Even though Intrada no longer publishes the number they're doing (and believe me there IS a number), people are sitting and not purchasing until they do those going out of print on things - then suddenly everyone moves, and then others lose out and say "I waited too long." It's a curious phenomenon. We are simply not set up to sit on hundreds of copies of anything for years - we do, of course, have a few titles like that, but mostly everything we do that's 1000 units sells at least eight hundred so we never have that much stock. But with 1500 you're looking at sitting on 500 or more - that I don't care to do - people must remember, we don't pay as we go - we pay EVERYTHING up front - transfer costs, mastering costs, licensing costs (based on a specific number, which keeps going higher and higher as the number goes higher), printing costs, pressing costs - so we do what we think is best - sometimes things sell out quickly, like this will or Breakheart did, but we've covered our costs and made some money in those instances, instead of spending more to sell less. Even so, I was told this would sell out in hours and that Breakheart at even less units would, too - and yet... However, anyone who waits on this one will be very disappointed because it won't be around after tomorrow and knowing what the dealers took and what they've sold thus far, they won't have it either. So, now would be a good time to snap it up - and as everyone knows if it's difficult to move that fast, I'm happy to hold copies.

We sold out at eleven this morning - no one seems to have noticed, which is amusing in itself. I can't imagine any other online dealers will have this for much longer.

The Eiger Sanction, The Cowboys, Jaws II, Dracula, Earthquake, The River, but most of those is probably still owned by Varese, isn't it? except those originally by MCA nobody is talking about... Aside from "The Cowboys," every Williams you mention is an MCA title licensed for CD reissue by Varèse. Meaning Varèse doesn't own those in perpetuity (unless they made a later deal for them, in which case they'll put them out).

It's always weird to me when people come and say "missed it" - I confirmed what this was going to be a week ago (over a week ago), it was announced here on Monday at six in the morning as well as on just about every other place one could announce and it was available until Wednesday at eleven in the morning. I would recommend getting on our eBlast list, then you'll never miss an announcement. I'll probably have emergency copies left once we ship and know if there are lost and/or damaged copies.
