Thanks. I'd ripped the CD to my computer and wasn't sure which box it was in. I knew I'd read that somewhere and I thought it was on this board, but I couldn't find the post for some reason. Strange that the press copy for this excellent album doesn't mention that James conducted The Red Pony. I guess he's just a modest guy but honestly it's an incredible performance and between this and his amazing job on True Grit I hope he does more! Yavar

I quite agree and can't wait to hear news of the next Goldsmith recording from Tadlow! Yavar

Good choice. Pick up The Salamander too, while you're at it. It's superb. Check out Tadlow's music video of the lengthy final cue on YouTube, which really encapsulates the score pretty well. Yavar

Glad to hear it because so do I. Shame about the performance itself and needing to smooth it with synth doubling, but the quality of the composition really shines through, with many wonderful themes. But I think you'd like it even better in complete chronological form. There's a digital "Deluxe Edition" from iTunes and I can tell you the chronological order if you're interested. Yavar

Poltergeist II is really quite different from its predecessor, apart from the return of a theme or two. I wouldn't say you should avoid it because it's more of the same. Rather I think you just won't care for it as much as the original. But it's still good and the Intrada is a good deal! I don't have it yet but I may get it for the superior liner notes and packaging if nothing else. I have the first complete release of the score, the quickly-sold-out Kritzerland edition, which many people still seem to think sounds better than the Intrada (it was a whole separate restoration effort, done only a few years earlier so Intrada didn't have much if any tech advantage, and apparently the Kritzerland restoration was very painstaking). It wasn't meant to follow where we were going. I just got confused. Getting back on track, the sequel I'm REALLY interested in from JG is Damien Omen II; in large part because you and other folks have emphasized it's being in different ways NOT too similar to the original (or Final Conflict for that matter). I'm a MASSIVE fan of the the 1st and FC. In fact, I'm surprised I haven't picked it up yet. I fear that if we get on a full JG topic we'll hog the forum all day. That's how much I could talk about his music...and of course the usual other suspects as well

I like Omen II better than Poltergeist II, personally. Probably not quite as much as the first or third Omen scores which just have some highs that can't easily be topped, but it is very much its own thing...leaner and meaner than either. I could understand if it was someone's favorite of the three, depending on their taste. Yavar

I'm one of those weirdos whom liked all three Omen films...including what for me is a bizarrely misrated Final Conflict. Sure, the latter gets kind of schlocky (mostly with the ending), and no we don't really know where in (from?) hell that guy Harvey came from. But Sam Neill played it pretty straight (not without humor, to my eyes at least), and the scene with the dogs is pretty great imo.

Damien carries on the thematic material from The Omen, but I always felt that it had a darkly mischievous quality to it that set it apart from the first film's score.
