Ahh, you weren't supposed to say ANYTHING as the movie is not out. Naughty Naughty Superman.

It's really not that big a deal Peter. I think what they want you to NOT say is what you saw on the screen while they were recording.

James

As I already told Peter, if there was one recording I wanted to witness this year, this one would be at the top of the list! I hope he is at liberty to discuss whether Doyle wore an ape mask (else I'll wait till the movie premieres) big grin

I didn't ask him why Varese never bothered with the online community, but if I'd have to guess I'd say Varese was around way before the online community thing started and really doesn't need it (or perhaps is less interested in it than other labels).

In FSM Online's 2009 video interview with him, Bob addressed this point at great length.

It does beg the question

Quick, somebody call the grammar police!

Seriously, though, I find it strange the amount of hostility leveled at Varèse lately. As if they don't want to get the product out promptly as much as we wish to receive it. The closer to film release it comes out, the more they're likely to get back from their investment. It's not like they twiddle their thumbs on these things just to stick it to impatient fans. The "f-you"s aimed at Varèse in the Super 8 thread and elsewhere have boggled my mind. I suppose none of those people have ever missed a deadline, bitten off more than they could chew or gone overbudget on anything. . .

Since you quoted part of my comment, I can only assume you were directing that at me. Sorry for the bad grammar. And more importantly, sorry if I hurt your obvious fragile feelings. I was not posting hate posts towards Varese. I was merely asking the question, why not withhold from announcing a release date until they have a product finalized? Especially when its becoming more the norm than the exception to delay a soundtrack. La La Land doesn't do it. Intrada doesn't do it. And most authors and videogame publishers dont do it. Varese brings it all on themselves. This is not negative to Varese. I love the label. And I dont care if something is on time or late. I was just merely saying....in jest mind you, how its another delayed release. Sure sorry if I offended you.

No problem at all Marcus and James is right, the big thing is plot points and what the apes look like etc. I did just post a review on my other thread about the day and it's really all about the music which is what most of us want to hear. I wish I had Daniel Schweigers writing skills, but I hope you guys will enjoy it. I hope you see that I truly was a kid in a candy store.

No Ape mask that day. That wold have been funny and I would have gotten a photo of that for sure.

Don't they have to give their distributor a release date? Maybe this is why they announce it with set dates. If somebody is holding up art or music on the studio side, I can't really be mad at them for announcing it.

I wasn't calling you out personally, nxbusby491. I made a facetious comment about the misuse of "begging the question" but the rest of my comment was addressed generally toward the various nasty and snarky comments directed to Varese across several threads, including but not limited to your own "delay of the month club" jab in this one. Rest assured I am not personally offended at all. As I said, I just don't really understand the general hostility.

Let's hope Doyle's score is better than his recent work which has been very average.

Here's an extended clip of the movie which has some of Doyle's score.

La La Land and Intrada don't generally release current scores. It's just a different game. La La actually has pushed release dates several times -- maybe they weren't posted on their website, but they were posted here. There's really nothing they can do -- they're at the mercy of the recording sessions and the studio's approvals. And they need to try to get these CDs out as quickly as possible. If Intrada's release of a score from 1958 comes out next week or next year, it doesn't really make much of a difference. But for a current release, time is of the essence. Varese has to announce a release date for retailers. Usually they'll hit it, sometimes they'll miss.

If a movie poster reads "Soundtrack on Varése Sarabande" and they don't yet have an entry on their site (which also happens), inevitably the chatter here is of the "They need to get their act together and announce a date" or the "It's probably been canceled" variety. I'm not sure there's any winning for them.

Ditto. In regards to the music, I can still hear some of the reinvented RC Doyle in the action music of that clip, but I also heard old school Doyle amongst that said music also, which wasn't the case for anything in Thor outside of "Thor Kills the Destroyer".

As always, looking forward to anything by Doyle.

I still don't understand how a music press release can manage not to say a single word about the actual music. . .

Agree! It seems so odd to me that the Varese catalog descriptions so rarely tell you what to expect musically. Usually there is some mention of cast and crew along with a brief plot summary and that's it. A lot of the time you get at most "Acclaimed composer So-And-So provides the score." Tell me something about the soundtrack I'm buying! I love Varese but I really wish whoever writes their marketing copy would focus on the actual music.

I think this is a holdover from the days when these blurbs were written for catalogues to get buyers from retail stores to stock their CDs. They were not written for the fan or music buyer... and Varèse, slow to change, still does it that way.

The score sounds quite promising in the above clip. Plus, I love the reference to the original POTA ("bright eyes") in the tracklisting....

"Rise Of The Lane Ap"

What's that, something to check freeway traffic with?

The first clip I think is great (I love that low angle shot where you can see Caesar swinging high in the trees in pursuit), I like what I'm hearing so far from Doyle. Looking forward to this.

I agree, the cover is an odd choice.
