When the Paramount floodgates opened and I said anyone releasing Star Trek music would get my money, I had no idea so much of it would be coming in ever-perfect FSM presentations. Nor did I expect anyone to devote so much to TNG music, but having gone back to my "Best of Both Worlds" disc and the notes/samples for this set in the last week, I can definitely see much more interesting music than I'd anticipated. So bring it on this September!

To those who ask why this is worth $150, good question. It is worth the money to those of us who grew up watching TNG and wondered why the "cool" music stopped at Season 4. Star Trek TNG was not just another show, it was a cultural phenomenon, and to many people even more than that. It is those people that this score is for. Watching these episodes since 1987 countless times on reruns, recorded VHS tapes, and DVD, these themes have become implanted in our brains just as much as any other part of the show. The Romulan warbird chasing the scout ship in "The Defector" would not be nearly as good of a scene if it were not for Ron Jones's music. Skin Of Evil would not have been the same campy but memorable episode without Ron Jones's score backing up the line "Data Something's Got Me!" as Riker is pulled into the pit, and Tasha's errie farewell music. I could go on about each episode and why it was memorable to me, and each person has his or her own memorable scene. The melody's from this music are as memorable as the story and characters and that is what makes this music worthy for release. On top of that, you are getting 40 complete episode scores, alternate and rejected takes, and two video game soundtracks, all remastered to their full potential. If you are a TNG fan to the level of myself and many others, simply put it is worth it.

I completely agree with you about the two holy grails. I wish LaLaLand had gone the FSM route with their TAS releases... Yavar P.S. If Disney ever opens up their animated stuff there's not only more Ron Jones awesomeness (Duck Tales), but also what might constitute my personal third holy grail of TV scoring: Carl Johnson's Gargoyles (but I'll also be ecstatic if LaLaLand includes his Grey Ghost episode of Batman:TAS in an upcoming volume whenever they are able).

Well, just for laughs and giggles I looked over at aint-it-cool-news.com to see what the folks over there were saying about this release... http://www.aintitcool.com/talkback_display/46342#comment_3536750 If you take a moment, you'll find their take on this set is a bit different then what you have seen here.. :-) Ford A.
