This is a comments thread about FSM CD: Miklós Rózsa Treasury

I wonder if The Power will get a separate re-issue someday now that the original masters were found? . . . but it sounds like crap.

The earlier version (which sounds perfectly decent) derived from a quarter-inch open-reel demo version that was prepared for a possible MGM records release of the soundtrack. No album was issued at the time. The first Miklos Rozsa score in five years and nobody thought there was a need for an album! Those were the days. Some years later both Rozsa and Pal happened to speak at a film conference at Indiana University, where the Rozsa Society was headquartered at the time (1977). Rozsa, who did not generally retain audio recordings of his film scores, casually mentioned that Mr. Pal might just possess such a recording from THE POWER and we ought to ask him about it. Rozsa departed that day, Pal arrived the following morning, and yes, he would be happy to share the tape with us. It circulated first among Rozsa Society members and later on one of those Tony Thomas "private" LP productions.

But of course the FSM Rozsa Treasury version, direct from the archives, is superior in all respects, being complete, scrupulously documented, and sonically pristine.

True; but it sounds like crap.

It made me perfectly happy for a number of years.

Hmm, thanks for the recommendation, LeHah. I may go for the Atlantis/The Power pairing myself. I know the Treasury set would offer much better sound, as well as a wealth of other music, but weighing all the other factors (i.e. funds and the lack thereof, having nice re-recordings of Madame Bovary & Young Bess in the Bernstein box, not to mention wanting to get Ben Hur as well), I think I would be happy enough with thirty minutes and average sound.

OK.... what have I just done...... Funds are really short at the moment (aren't they always), but I only gone and ordered this beast.

Never really paid much attention to Rozsa before outside of Ben-Hur and El Cid, but the last few days I have been listening to samples of this set and they have really began to grow on me. With the number of this set reduced from 2000 to 1500 and so few being left I didn't want to be regretting in a couple of years not getting this one.

Also picked up Moonfleet as well smile

I am now off for a stiff drink and to sell some body organs to pay for this one.

Oh, and I also intend to get the 5-disc Ben-Hur. Somebody tell me I've not gone mad!

You've gone mad. The only cure is repeated listening to The Rozsa Box and any other Rozsa discs you can grab from FSM and elsewhere. I have them all.

I can't really afford it right now, but I finally bit the bullet and bought this today. Only 22 left now. I've been watching it carefully ever since the LQ announcement, knowing I would buy it when it dropped below 25 units. I was hoping it would last until March, but I paired it with a pre-order so that I won't be charged right away. This is not one I wanted to miss. I can't wait to immerse myself into these Rozsa classics! Thank you FSM.

I just ordered a copy. This is what happens when you get into the game later than everyone else. I am very happy to have one. Thank you Lukas. El Cid has long been a favorite of mine. Aside from King of Kings, I have not listened to any of the others. I look forward to that.

A question. Where can one find out information about low quantities? I have seen the regular reports, but some people are listing numbers that I cannot seem to find. Thanks in advance.

When the item's in your cart at SAE, just change the quantity to something high. It'll max out at the number of copies left in the system.

Thanks for the answer. That will be helpful the future.

I finally ordered this a couple of days ago, didn't want to miss out. Good job I did, it's down to 13 copies now! I don't think it'll last until the end of the month, perhaps not even the weekend...

It dropped from 22 to 13 in the past three hours - my guess is that these will disappear pretty quickly - if they're not snatched by hold-outs like yourselves, then the sharks will have at them.

Any stragglers should decide quickly: 5 left.

I ordered one of those last five copies left in stock. So what happens/happened to the parts to make the last 500 copies mentioned in the FSM Catalog—Low Quantities Report, Part 9, CD Vol. 12 (2009)? http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/daily/article.cfm/articleID/6766/

Wonder if Lucas will change his mind and print the final 500 now.
SAE shipped mine yesterday so hopefully next week I will have a nice customs charge to pay. Yes I did pay extra for shipping. I'm willing to pay the extra for this one. Don't want it getting lost in the post.
