I'm so thrilled about this release, but I must confess as with Lukas, it's getting a tad tiresome and I think somewhat rude to respond on a thread about a new release only to say, your not getting it. I just don't get it, the point of this thread is to let folks know about it, get excited, plan accordingly etc. If you AREN'T going to buy it, I think it's a nice thing to keep that to yourself.

I've never heard of the series "the flash" before, found this on youtube

I feel pretty stupid right now -- I totally thought this was an animated show, not live action. Is it a mix of both?

It's live action. I don't recall the music for the series, but my family and I really enjoyed the show for the one season it was on. John Wesley Shipp made a great Flash. Unfortunately, CBS seemed to give it a different day and time from one week to the next, so it never really found its home.

This seems like it was a wicked corny show.

Honestly, Elfman's theme is the worst thing about The Flash. It's not often you can say that about Elfman, but that's how good Walker's material is.

I, too, assumed it was animated, Rick, and for some reason, knowing that it's live action makes this release much more appealing to me. Weird, I know.

How dare you, sir.

I'm assuming that the 2CD set will include the pilot score, which is considerably more hefty than the later episodic scores. Shirley's music was very much in the Elfman-mode of the early '90s (DARKMAN, DICK TRACY), heavy on the brass, copious bongo rhythms ("Track Test" is right out of Danny's "Peppy Science" from DARKMAN).

It's almost hard to believe this is what television music sounded like once upon a time. Now I'm depressed.

For the uninitiated, THE FLASH is a fun series, and Shirley Walker's music is just fantastic. It's very much in the vein of BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES - memorable themes for each "villain of the week," terrific action cues, romantic cues, suspense, you name it. I don't say this lightly, but her music is just as energetic, imaginative and fun as the music composed for STAR TREK: The Original Series.

A few Youtube samples... I'm not sure if this music will be on the set, but it'll give you a good idea of the overall quality. Highly, highly recommended.

Here's the Flash's first appearance in the 2-hr pilot. Walker's action music is just fantastic, and the first time we see him in full costume (around the 4 min mark) she gives us an big, bold, heroic statement of his theme throughout the series.

And... The Flash stops a prison break!

The Flash takes on Captain Cold!

Opinions are neat!! I mean, like to me, I LOVE the main theme, robust, has a great melody etc. sets the tone for the show, but for some, they can't stand it, think it's just not good. It's interesting how much one person can like one thing and another think it's just not good at all. Just an observation, no disrespect, just seeing some of the threads and makes ya think you know!

What struck me about the pilot score is that you don't really get a full-on version of Elfman's theme as you do in the series (even the end credits are basically a repeat of the cue where Barry's running around a track).

Looking forward to the Flash! I have fond memories of the tv show myself. With respect to the music, one episode I loved is the one that introduced the '50s vigilante Nightshade. A fun character who borrowed more than a bit from the Golden Age Sandman. Nightshade had a great theme, and that episode had some great musical moments. In fact, I recorded parts of that episode on an audio tape so I could hear the score.

Thanks for the release!

Who else thinks this might sell out kinda fast?
I (as one who didn't even know La-La Land existed when BTAS came out and has almost no hope of attaining an affordable copy and who knows that the sentence in these parentheses is getting too long so will end it here), for one, would love some Shirley Walker music.

It's not Goldsmith, it doesn't have the fan power something like B:TAS has, especially being something of a failed show....no I don't think it'll sell out TOO fast.

I believe you will be proven very wrong.
