Dana, As far as Raksin on CD is concerned, the CD edition of his RCA LP re-recordings (LAURA/BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL/FOREVER AMBER) preceded those Varese and Rhino OST's to the marketplace. -PNJ PS: Did you get my e-mail?

I bought this as soon as it came out, and i enjoy it immensely. Raksin is my No. two favorite right after Friedhofer. I think everyone should buy a copy! Any chance of his "Bigger Than Life" ever seeing the light of day?

The film of the first score in the "David Raksin at M-G-M" box set, "Across the Wide Missouri," has been issued as a made-on-demand DVD by the Warner Archive Collection. http://www.wbshop.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-WB-Site/default/Search-Show?q=1000213460&adid=0711WACNRdEml&src=EWA7D11 The film was on TV here in the U.K. a few months ago and I watched it, mostly because the Raksin music on the box-set impressed me so much. Wonderful music for a film that was entertaining enough, but not particularly special. By the way, I think the liner notes for "David Raksin at M-G-M", written by Marilee Bradford, are exceptionally well done. - JMM.

Raksin is my No. two favorite right after Friedhofer. I was SO happy when i saw this box announced, I bought my set as soon as it came out, and i enjoy immensely. It did not disappoint me. Everybody should buy this set, kick back and be awed by one of the masters! Does anybody know if there is any chance of his "Bigger Than Life" ever seeing the light of day?

I picked up this set in the recent (amazing) deal, and though I've yet to listen to it, I've made my way through the excellent booklet. One thing I wanted to note - some of you might be aware of it - is that one of the MGM shorts scored by Raksin, Main Street Today, is actually available in Volume One of the TCM Esther Williams DVD sets. Though a lot of it is obscured by dialogue and narration, there's some lovely music to be heard in it. If any of you have or can access this set, it's on the Bathing Beauty disc. Hopefully, Warner will eventually release a final set of Esther DVDs (there's four of her MGM musicals left to do, plus a couple of dramas that could warrant inclusion) If they do, they might be able to dig up another Raksin-scored short, Inflation. This would make sense, as Esther Williams actually appears in that!
