I've been waiting for this for years - one of the only (released) gaps in my Williams collection, due to the price of the original CD on secondary markets. I'm glad this includes the OST program, too!

I can't really afford it, but that's what a credit card is for. Splurged and bought Saving Private Ryan from LLL, too. Hopefully I'll get a chance to listen to both before the bank takes them away!

Reading this news today will forever be an “I remember where I was” moment for me. Like so many others, this was the holiest of all grails for me. And yes, Matessino was involved so all is right with the world. I’m beyond thrilled and pretty much awestruck that this is really happening.

Best release of the year, as far as I am concerned.
Congratulations to Varese for making this happen!

I'd bought the old Varèse CD in 1993 for £12.99 (in WHSmith of all places), and then the LP in 2015 for £11.99 (from Oxfam!).
Aaaaand now Varèse are going to get another thirty quid off me, and HM Customs are going to get a tenner too or whatever it is. Hey ho.

I always promised myself this one if it was ever reissued (I had the LP and for a while, the cd) - my second favourite Dracula score after Kilar’s. And before Van Helsing, which I like.

So yes, in a word......

ORDERED!

Excellent release! The old version was my most-played John Williams. Hoping I can afford this before it sells out.

Well, its a 5000 release. It will be here for a while.

Ya. No, I don't think so? Cause its a serious grail I believe that it should be gone maybe in a few months? What do u think people?

I think it will sell out, but at 5000 copies I don't think it will be gone before everyone has a chance to buy it, not like those 3000 super fast sell-outs of yesteryear.

An expensive set with p&p & custom charges to the UK, but I don't mind, I think this will be my first soundtrack order this year. I wonder what the chances are of Williams' Towering Inferno from La-La joining it?

It's gonna be hard to replace the 8-track I picked up back in '79, but I'm forcing myself. wink

The one with the chase music cue that fades down so the track can changeover (noisily) and then it fades back up?

Woah X10X Wow - ate me garlic/back to me coffin, wrong again, fan-fig for f*****g sure. smile

This is typical JW recycling at his finest off the main theme, Williams simply masters all different moods for Drac cold-warm-hot.. a few Fav's, "Main + Storm Sequence" "Night Journey" "Love Scene" "Night Visitor" & "TBA" Williams weaves splendid tapestries from romance too gothic too subdued too atmospheric, brillance of instruments.

2 discs.. TYVM Varese, great stuff easy sale for me, blown-away bravo.

Dear god, I forgot all about that. Thank heavens I've had the CD since it came out in the 90's - I love the chase music! (But I really do remember listening to the 8-track all. the. time.)

OK, now that it's official, can we get Mike in here to tell us the story about how the tapes were located, what the source of this release is, etc. The press release does not go into this.

You read my mind, Shaun! Hoping it's stereo! The blurb IS rather (ahem) cryptic! big grinbig grinbig grin

Samples are clearly stereo. And sound good (although It shows some of its age, with some small hiss).

We thought it might be nice to celebrate our 40th Anniversary with a Deluxe Edition of our No. 1 most requested soundtrack! Here it is! Years in the making. Countless hurdles overcome. We are thrilled and ecstatic to finally offer this. Let the celebrations begin!

John Williams’ Dracula kicks off this latest edition of our CD Club!

John Badham directed this 1979 telling of Dracula’s tale. John Williams was absolutely on fire at this time. There were Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind in 1977. The Fury, Jaws 2 and Superman all from 1978. And then came Dracula in 1979. It was a magical time and this was another masterpiece. Dracula features one of John Williams’ most brilliant and iconic themes. He admittedly has so many but he certainly captured the mythical Count in a darkly romantic and seductive way.

For this Deluxe Edition we have expanded the original 36:00 album selection to a whopping 72:00, including cues not heard in the final cut of the picture. This is a very important resurrection! Mike Matessino undertook the new 2018 mix of the score. Due to its own unique assembly, which represents John Williams’ own album vision from 1979, we have included a newly-mastered-from-a-new-source presentation of the originally soundtrack album as Disc 2.

The truly deluxe packaging includes a 2-CD set, a 36-page book and a 12-page booklet all in a beautifully designed Dracula slipcase box. Here’s a release we can all celebrate!

Throughout history, Dracula has filled men's hearts with fear - and women's hearts with desire. In this stylish retelling of the classic tale of horror, Frank Langella gives an electrifying performance as the bloodthirsty Count, with Sir Laurence Olivier as his legendary nemesis, Van Helsing, the renowned and relentless vampire hunter seeking to end the Dark Prince's reign of terror over the citizens of Transylvania!

This will be a day long remembered...

And the weekiversery since our chat. A date that will live in infamy.

Come to think of it, I like Glass’s string quartet for Dracula. And Love at First Bite wasn’t the least fun I remember having listening to an LP.

Great release for sure! I didn't think we would ever see the complete score on CD. Looks like a lot to read too.
I saw the film when it came out and always liked the score.
