I'd gladly donate $100 for eight CDs...provided I could select what CDs I receive.

I wonder if there's some wiggle room here; i.e., maybe instead of a no-look gift bag the labels can come up with a list of eligible titles from which donors can pick their eight.

Hi Lukas,

I downloaded and read the script. I really enjoyed it, it was engaging and reminded me a lot of Ghost in the Shell and memory hacking - especially the 2nd and third Ghost in the Shell films. I really enjoyed the part about unscrewing the port hole to get a live visual. I also loved the scene where the main character confirms something was written in their own handwriting, by re-writing that text themselves. Also how you called the AL-C - "Alice" - nice touch.

A 'Pulsating ELECTRONIC SCORE" by Ron Jones sounds great, and as Yavar suggested a good reward option. Offering at one level a digital download, and another level a physical CD+digital with the full score and bonus sound sketches for example would be pretty cool too.

Thanks so much for reading and your nice words. Yes, I love Ghost and the Shell and also Battlestar Galactica and Robotech—things in that world.

Happy to make a CD of the score but it would probably only be 10 minutes long at most!

Lukas

If it's 10 minutes of prime Ron Jones it's more than worthwhile...my favorite Michael Giacchino work for film is his Roar Overture for Cloverfield -- about 12 minutes long. That said, to save you expense, I personally would be perfectly happy with a (lossless) download option. smile The whole point of this is to raise money for you, after all.

Well how about producing a custom Mini-CD, which were used in japan all the time for CD Singles?

I have a really cool one I got from composer Kevin Manthei that has his famous Invader Zim "Zimphony" on it. It's also signed - something like that from Ron Jones would be pretty neat. Manthei's discs was custom home made.

Oh, what if the short score CD included demo cues from various projects by Jones? A tempting bonus, no?

I like the script. It worked for me as a solid stand-alone story as well as a proof-of-concept piece. I could see how you'd be able to take the premise and use it for a contained location movie, like doing a Philip K. Dick version of The Last Starfighter or something, using a space opera setting to tell a claustrophobic, paranoid story that goes inward with flashbacks and conflicting memories and things like that. And Ron Jones makes complete sense. The man can obviously score a space battle in his sleep, but he can also do some wicked paranoia-type music with a real drive to it, like "The Vision" and "Saving Palmer" from "Who Watches The Watchers?" The title "Sky Fighter" initially struck me as a tad generic, though it ended up working as a nice sleight of hand to make the darkness of the short more of a surprise. Overall a clever idea.

Oh, now we're talking! Filling out the 10 minute score with other short/obscure (and not tricky to license) but GOOD things from Jones's archives would be just the exclusive to do to get me excited. Lukas, you were so awesome at finding these obscure goodies by other composers (LOVED the TV Omnibus!) that I know you could do something fantastic with Jones.

Maybe even some original piece just for the CD.

And really really top contributing people -- maybe Jones an create an original piece for them, in a style specified by the contributor.

*Reads Script*

Lukas, you do whatever you can to get your project made. You've got more of a foot in the door of the entertainment industry than I'll ever dream of getting. I absolutely want to see you make this project.

Now what I'm about to say has nothing to do with the quality of your script (Which is actually really good), nor is it about whether the story is good or bad. I just can't get behind it. As a devoted feminist who is still waiting for women to be on equal footing, I just found this story to be a hard read. You've given the enemy a feminine nickname that everyone is paranoid about and you kill the only female character in your story. The way everything is structures it feels like the script itself has it out for Mo.

Of course, you don't have to take anything I've said to heart. I'm not posting this to change your mind, change your script, change your ambition or call you something that I know you're not. I hope you get the chance to see your vision brought to life and I hope it offers you an invaluable learning experience.

Complete short film score is obviously a must as one of the perks... depending on who would score it ;-)

Lokutus: I am so glad it was YOU who asked...the composer will be my dear friend Ron Jones!

Can't make this up!

Lukas

I can't wait to hear the score!

Jeyl, thank you for your comments. It might interest you to know that the points that trouble you about the short are actually expanded quite a bit for the feature film, and put in a feminist context that I think you would support. But condensing everything for the short (a short film is like blowing up a balloon and then it pops—the end) I can see how it would come off that way. (I wrote the feature first, then the short some time afterwards.)

Really appreciate your feedback!

Same here, if I could have 4 single Intrada releases, 4 Varese & not the latest titles as stated that deal would work for me.

Good luck with your film , its a hard business but you have a lot of experience/knowledge so your over half way there already, all the best it broadens your career in movie making.

How about this idea: Donate $100 (for example) and get a coupon code to use at a label's store to gives you discounts and sale prices (at the label's discretion)?

Donate more and get a bigger discount—at a certain point, it would save you a lot of money!

That way people could shop for what they want...right?

Yeah, I like that idea for sure too. Some logistics to work out (do you have to spend all at once or not), but I would certainly be on board with that perk.

Just read the script, it's good! It will be quite challenging to properly direct - this is a mostly one room scene where framing, acting and editing will be crucial to build tension, Good luck! You manage to create an emotion with a very short amount of time and this is very difficult.

I also loved the scene where the main character confirms something was written in their own handwriting, by re-writing that text themselves.

Usually it is used in movies for the audience to understand it is the same person, although quite frankly, I can tell if something is my handwriting without having to rewrite it, but in this case, it does make sense because the guy has lost his memory!
I like the very cinematic way the ending is done (visual/audio synchs). Only thing that felt a little generic to me is perhaps the title (may be because it unjustly makes me think of "Sky Pirates"). Sorry that I cannot come up with a decent suggestion ("Brainstorm" would have been nice ;-), "Brain Fighter"?, "One of us"? .. Ok forget it)

Directing short film are exhausting but ultimately rewarding: but I guess you know that already, good luck and I hope you make it !

Just want to use the opportunity to say that really I liked your "Super Agent" script from a while ago, as someone noted it could make a good animated movie especially with all the craziness about superhero movies. I remember reading it to the end at the time, a time when I had very young kids so definitely not much time on my hands as you can probably imagine ;-). Have you given up on this one?

Thanks for your nice words. The title "Sky Fighter" is also the title for the feature where it fits better.

I haven't been back to that "Superagent" script since I wrote it—it was a learning experience!

Appreciate everybody's feedback and support!
