That part I do feel for you, however, missing the party on certain titles. I didn't realize POLTERGEIST was one of them....I wouldn't fret too much, someone may just pick it up & reissue.... ;-) The 2 disc Alien is rather easy to find, plus Yavar did point me in the right direction as far as sales go. 2018 is where I catch up on Goldsmith collection.

Glad to hear it. I totally get why you don't rank Goldsmith up with his teacher Rozsa now, if that is the extent of your Goldsmith collection. You've got quite a bit of catching up to do. My advice is this: he has so much great stuff in his output and a lot of it is so popular and gets reissued multiple times. Don't spent a lot of money on OOP stuff like Poltergeist, but prioritize all the great stuff which is currently in print and even perhaps on sale! Your funds will go a lot farther that way and eventually you'll either find a secondhand deal for the others or get a reissue if it's a perennial classic like Poltergeist. And you'll catch up on the excellent westerns eventually, at the rate you're going...but best to hold out for a LLL sale since they have many of them currently. Yavar

Yavar I'm still breaking into Westerns (I still listen to the Tadlow Alamo more than the Rhino HTWWW...don't hate me). I've been enjoying the Stromberg Red River, one of his better efforts among what seems to me a few too many flat re-recordings. And I'm with you...ebay often dregs up things rare and awesome at discount prices (I got that Captain from Castile for a...uh, steal. Get it? Castile? Steal? BWA, I LOVE BEING CORNY!). I also just plain adore the Wind and the Lion score, and am actually kind of surprised I haven't picked it up already.

If you place an Intrada order for their complete Alien...they also did a complete definitive Wind and the Lion, don't forget! They also have their reissue of One Little Indian on sale right now for $3 off...it's a western and tons of fun with an addictive main theme, though I wouldn't put it up with his greatest for the genre like Lonely Are the Brave. But maybe listen to sound clips while it's discounted? They also have Rozsa's Desert Fury at the same discount. I think both discounts are temporary (though no exact end date) so thought I'd just mention them. Actually one more incredible title I must mention because it is currently a shocking 30% off -- Hugo Montenegro's magnum opus, Hurry Sundown. I am not exaggerating when I say it is one of the greatest Intrada releases of the past couple years, and I never tire of listening to it. So try out those sound clips too, even if it's not a score by a "pantheon" composer! http://store.intrada.com/s.nl/sc.16/category.65626/.f Yavar

I remember Logan's Run the (not bad) film, but now I'm going to investigate the music, thank you! If you decide to pursue, only the complete FSM will do. The truncated original soundtrack mixes the chronology of the cues and may be a better listening experience for some people but, in my opinion, destroys the brilliant architecture of the score. In a nutshell, the complete score is a fascinating progression from a cold electronic world to a warm orchestral one. Whoa, FSM Logan's Run qualifies for the discount!!!

Hmm, since I am looking to grow my Goldsmith collection, I guess I should wait on Diane...this is a touch choice for me folks. But I want to listen to more Jerry.

I personally listen to Diane more than Logan's Run. The latter may be a more brilliant composition but it's one of the few Goldsmith scores where I have trouble with the extensive synths. but I've never seen the film and I imagine if I do the score will grow greatly in my eyes (ears?) But Twilight Zone: The Movie and Islands in the Stream are also 30% off in this sale and I can recommend them without reservation (and Under Fire I also manage to regularly enjoy listening to, despite the synths). I'm rather biased. But just look what you get with Diane. 2xCDs with tons of Rozsa in glorious full stereo. I mean, that's HUGE, too. ARGH! You're not making this easy lol! I have quite a nice Rozsa collection now, and the only score that I am still struggling with is Providence. I love the main theme, but there are elements (especially percussive) that just irritate the heck out of me...a first in my experience with his music. There are quite a few scores by Maestro Miklos I still want, especially some of his later work, Diane, The World, Flesh, etc. But I realized recently it was time to broaden my horizons, for one with (hopefully) the Friedhofer "Rains of Ranchipur", but most expectantly Jerry (partly because he was my first film composer BOYS FROM BRAZIL RULES!).

Yavar Uh oh, I haven't heard much enthusiasm from fans over Jerry's synth incorporations. Alright, so now I'm weighing Diane and LR...Diane being from right around Rozsa's peak. Speaking of Rozsa, I realize I still haven't checked out Lost Weekend (I know, WOW right?).

Speaking of Rozsa, I realize I still haven't checked out Lost Weekend (I know, WOW right?). The synth is not present in every track. There’s plenty of lush orchestral music to enjoy. Thanks, that's encouraging. And Goldsmith used synth to great effect in Magic and (I think) all the Omens. In fact, not sure but I think he used them since at least the early 70s. Logan's Run the movie? I never thought it was bad at all, just imo weirdly put together and with some bad acting in places. I could be wrong, I haven't seen it since the early 80s. I think Alien is my priority now for Goldsmith (unless as I mentioned there's a crack sale on Poltergeist). For now I'm going crazy waiting for the UPS man to drop off "Blue Max"! PSYCHED!
