Well, FilmMusicReporter is reporting that Giacchino said he's scoring "Inside Out", so cross that little bit of good news off the McNeely list.

McNeely really hit this one out of the park!

Haven't seen the movie yet but I have no reservations whatsoever about the score--it's McNeely getting his shot and walloping it over the fence. This is a bracing blast from the past that is pure exhilaration, showing what a talented person can do when not weighed down by temps, not having to mock everything up for "the commitee," and not being ordered to avoid themes. Perhaps not quite in the league of Broughton's SILVERADO and TOMBSTONE, westerns more serious in tone, it's certainly one of the best western scores since those halcyon days. I hope McNeely gets a lot of work off this one (although I doubt he'll ever get the freedom he got from McFarland.)

Exactly right, tuneful and exhilarating and a perfect fit for the film as well as a good listen. Actually worked better than the film did, IMO. I don't mind some off-color stuff, but this was so self-consciously obscene and intentionally gross-out that it was a less-satisfying comedy (for me) than it might have been had McFarlane taken his foot off the pedal just a bit. A tip of the hat to McNeely for a job well done, anyway.
