This is a fantastic score!

I got the house to myself, doing a little catch up work on a Sunday afternoon and I am blown away by this wonderful score. It kinda makes me think of a what if scenario -- "What if John Williams scored The Goonies?"

Velazquez is truly one of the most exciting composers out there. I highly recommend this one!

Just ordered this one along with the Gaigne I mentioned. Looking forward to hearing both.

Fernando Velazquez is the best "New" composer I have heard in years, and he is currently my favorite living composer. Anyone want to hear exquisite beautiful music? check out "THE IMPOSSIBLE". It should have won the Oscar for best original film score.

This is and expanded comment I made at another score board:

This composer is ripe for the picking for a big fantasy film. Joe Dante should look into hiring him if he ever does anotehr film like "Explorers". He'd be great for some Potter-like film.

Heck, I'd substitute Elfman for him on "Sherman and Peabody".

I bought the 2016 re-issue of this not long ago.
Finally got around to spinning it.
Some exciting and lovely passages (plus memorable themes) in amongst the broad, mickey-mouse comic-book music.
Quick question though.
Track 7 (La Resistencia) comes in with the music already begun, like it missed the opening second(s) or so!!
Also, the fade out of track 20 into track 21 is botched, ruining the end/start of both cues!!
Is it like this on the original pressing?
Or is it a fault with the re-issue (or maybe just my copy)?
Appreciate any answers or help smile

I also noticed this. Also noticed this at the start of the "End Credits" cue on the Crimson Peak soundtrack.

Thanks Frank.
Did you buy the 2016 re-issue of Zipi, or the original CD release of it from a few years back?

Hi Kev! I have the original issue and those same issues are present on that disc too. There's a similar issue on Crimson Peak, but I can't remember precisely which cues it affects (it's a segue that's been broken by a track break). Somebody at Quartet dropped the ball on these discs :-(

A real shame it wasn't picked up and fixed on the re-issue. Perhaps it was one of those occasions where we should have been more vocal about the errors.

I just talked with Fernando, who has produced, assembled and supervised the final master of this and all his own albums, at least with us, and there are no mistakes for him: The start of the track 7 is the natural beginning. The RTVE Hall where was recorded have a lot of reverb, and the first chord of celesta, harp and bass piano with the fagots and tubas at full speed make this effect.

Abruptness on some starts in “Crimson Peak” (and also in "The Last Days", "Zipi & Zape 2", "A Monster Calls" and others) are only changes of index, but the music continues, and that is very usual in Fernando albums. That's the artist choice of Mr. Velázquez and his sound engineer Marc Blanes.

Thanks for the reply and info.
However, between tracks 21 and 22 there is a cut-out in the music (or indexing) which ruins the flow of the music on the various music players I (and others it seems) have.
THE one minus of CD's (for me) is composers or music producers letting the music flow between tracks.
Why not just self contain everything (or use natural pauses and silences as a break between tracks). This would avoid any mess ups and allow us to hear the music as it should be heard.

But the music *doesn't* continue. That's the problem. Rather than a discreet index point (and seamless transition) there is an actual break between tracks. So it jerks off, then on again! That's normally an assembly error. I'd be surprised if it was intentional.

Hopefully this works: here's a sample of the last 13 seconds of track 20 ("El Tesoro De Esperanza") and the first 13 seconds of track 21 ("Esperanza TOYS"). There's a fade out at the end of track 20 that shouldn't be there.

Absolutely no one has ever complained about these albums (Zipi & Zape was released in 2013, and Crimson Peak one year ago), and we have sold a few thousand of them, so perhaps you guys can send your complaints directly to Mr. Velazquez himself at www.fernandovelazquez.com or his sound engineer at www.marcblanes.com, I'm sure they will reply you at some point.

The reason nobody complains is because there's no point. See above.

These "music players" you refer to...

Are these hi-fi systems when playing the CD?
Or digital players after you've ripped the files to mp3?

If the latter, some of these have the option to remove gaps from between tracks, which means they're perhaps inserting their own gap in the first place, which wasn't necessarily on the CD.
