And yes, I do genuinely enjoy listening to large portions of these scores, finally, after years of trying to. smile

Alright, loving FOTR and ROTK. Especially FOTR and ROTK.

Now, surely someone out there hates their CR copy of The Two Towers and would be willing to practically throw it away for $50, right? wink

Anybody know what is up? I know they've been in and out of print for years now, but I'm just curious if anybody happens to know the current situation and explanation for the exorbitant prices.

Amazon US prices:

Fellowship of the Ring (unavailable) - $73.99+
Two Towers (unavailable) - $399.99+
Return of the King (in stock) - $51.44+

Thoughts?

They still go for heart-attack-inducing sums on eBay. Between this and the aftermarket prices for FUNimation's Dragon Boxes, I swear I'd have to take out a second mortgage to buy these things. I suppose we could vainly hope for 15th anniversary rerelease this year?

Doug Adams has stated in no uncertain terms that these are coming.

Sweet Jesus in heaven, why is TTT selling for $3,600? :|

I see this time all the time on eBay and esp Half.com- multiple copies of an album will be listed for a similar amount and a final listing asking for a thousand dollars or more.

I think it's a scheme for paying off deep cover Soviet spies.

Great news! I just need The Two Towers and of course, it's the one that's the most expensive. I actually owned all three when they were released, but had to sell them. Now I'm buying them back and I found both FOTR and ROTK for reasonable prices under $100 each, but TTT is just absurd right now. $200-$300-$400. Ridiculous. I really hope they are re-released. They are amazing.

Despite being a one time rabid Shore collector, I don't own these so good news. I bought the Doug Adams LOTR book/CD recently, so I really should get these too.

EDIT: What is it with Two Towers being hard to get compared to the others? I didn't bother with the full set of Extended Blurays as the extra discs are just DVDs (like I already owned), so I decided just to buy the individual film discs. Which was fine for #1 and #3, but The Two Towers? You can't find the UK Extended Bluray of this at all. But the shops are overflowing with the other two. Nuts!

I don't have a Twitter account, so if there's more, keep us up to date wink. I wonder if they'll do a mega-boxed set of all six scores?

The prices are much higher in Europe. TTT is £ 500 on Amazon.co.uk as like new condition and ROTK has the same price, too.

The Fellowship of the Rings is the cheapest, it could be bought as very good condition and the price is £ 150.

I have an extra copy of ROTK, new and sealed, but I ´m not going to sell it under $ 600, sorry...

And in related news, ROTK CC is wierdly the only CC title available for download / streaming in my country. FOTR and TTT CCs are MIA.

The status of these is inexplicable.
All three releases out of print and going for $100s. Many $100s.
ROTK is on Spotify but the other two are still not anywhere to be seen.
Whaaat.

I've debated on occasion selling mine for $75 each only to help out cash strapped fans...but I just can't bring myself to do it because I cherish them too much. These really are gems, but not to the tune of hundreds of dollars.

For now, I feel frustration that these are so out of reach for the majority. I am hoping for a reissue, but we've been hearing about that for a few years and still nothing. If I ever do cave and decide to sell them for a reasonable and fair amount (not a mortgage payment), I'll post it here first.

The status of these is inexplicable.

Hasn't it been explicked?

The sets are expensive to produce, and not practical to produce in small batches. It seems likely the label is unsure whether producing large batches will result in large sales at this point.

That said, I don't understand why they're not all equally available for streaming. And maybe at this point, they should just produce regular CD sets without the elaborate packaging and the DVD-A.

But then, it's not my money at stake.

I had no idea these had gotten so high-valued. Glad I took the leap and got them back in the day.

Too bad sets like these aren't in the works for Harry Potter, Star Wars, Marvel, etc. The FSM Blue box & the Burton-Elfman release are the only comparable releases I can think of. You never what you've got that will become a hard-to-get release.

I'm so glad that I got these when they were released. I recall receiving TTT as a Christmas present from a sibling. TRoTK was tough to find at the time of its release and i remember it just being luck that I found it at Best Buy. I, for one, am glad that these puppies included the CDs as I couldn't cart my DVD-Audio player and sound system around with me.
