Just bumping this thread. This CD will appeal to anyone interested in what Barry was doing before his film score career took off.

Absolutely! Personally it was worth it just for the library pieces.

I think there is a limit of 1000 on this one, though like Intrada not formally announced.

I'm completely hooked, some fabulous Barry songs and arrangements. This is the Barry that I discovered so long ago, a great CD.

Yes, it's a great CD, isn't it.

Just such a shame that, presumably because it's not a film score, people seem to be passing it by.

As someone else said, it's worth it just for the 'MOOD' tracks, where are absolutely in the style and on the same level as Barry's early film music.

.......and as countless others have noticed, the Mood music tracks are surely the inspiration for Beat Girl, Never Let Go and of course the Bond sound. I hope the Bond fans pick up on it , the music deserves to be heard and appreciated by the millions of Bond fans around the globe.

John Barry The Early Years
Just been listening to this excellent CD on Windmill Records. Producer Geoff Leonard is obviously just like us, an enthusiast! The compilation has been put together with much love and care. Great selection of tracks, 36 of them! In excellent sound. Attractive artwork, and informative booklet. What more can you ask for?
Many of the tracks made me smile, not only the corny songs, lets face it ‘I Vibrate’ and I ‘Want My Bed’ were never going to be hits. But the many flashes of the John Barry style that we would get to know and love in future years.
I was wondering if a talented arranger/composer today would have as many opportunities to refine their skill, somehow I doubt it.
Interestingly one track called ‘Marilyn’ (B. White) Larry Page, is a dead ringer for a Jacques Brel song called ‘Madeleine’ anyone have any views on this?
If you only have the slightest interest in the work of John Barry, you must get this CD, fascinating and great fun too!

Geoff, if you'd like to pick up releasing the definitive compilation of Roland Shaw recordings, you'd be loved by many.

I'll second that!

BTW the John Barry disc is now down to fewer than 200 copies.

I'll 3rd this! Shaw's arrangements never winked at or lightened oo7's music for the easy listening crowd. These recordings are absolutely worth preserving in the best possible condition for future Bond enthusiasts.

Remaster these and watch this board light up with post's saying
"ORDERED!"

I will certainly look into the Roland Shaw recordings, though experience has taught me not to promise a positive outcome!

In the meantime, thanks to all those who have ordered the Barry CD today. Obviously it's not the greatest time of the year to ensure fast postal delivery, but I can guarantee that all will have been posted before Christmas.
