Just because he´s a comedian it does not mean he can just ridicule others by stating things that are wrong. Where´s the humor in saying that Williams´ music always sounds like the same stolen classical bit? That sure is disrespectful and hateful. With all due respect, he wasn't making a joke for film score fans. He was making a joke for the members of the studio audience and the Joe Q Public watching at home. He clearly meant no disrespect.

With all due respect, he wasn't making a joke for film score fans. He was making a joke for the members of the studio audience and the Joe Q Public watching at home. He clearly meant no disrespect. It does not matter for whom he was making the joke. Even worse if Joe Qu Public now thinks: yeah, that John Williams guy, what an idiot, hahahaha. To make this clear: if a famous person has done something that a comedian can make fun of, thereby pointing to the absurdity of his/her behaviour, I´m all for it. If John Williams had decided to flip the Academy or to wear only tinfoil hats from now on, I would love for any comedian to make a joke out of it. But for Ferguson to claim that all of Williams´ music sounds like "la-la-la-la" is and remains stupid and mean. Imagine the other way around: Someone would say "Hey, this Craig Ferguson, he talks exactly like Jay Leno, isn´t that weird?" Then you would rightly say: that´s wrong. He does not. And why the hell are people laughing at that? That was my point. To get the reaction I got from Erik is pretty disappointing.

Yea come to my place in New Hampshire! We'll go swimming, throw beads... Sounds great, thank you! But still... at 10:25 he begins, saying "John Williams could do anything and still get an Oscar nomination", then he continues to sing a "new theme" from Williams and screams "Oh, it´s amazing!" If that´s not a putdown of Williams´work...

Again, Erik - if that´s a joke it´s not a very good one. But let´s leave it at that.

Hate to say it but there is truth in that statement. He gets nominated far to often for lack luster scores year after year, while other far better scores are neglected. He IS the musical golden boy of the Oscars. Yup. And I believe it is this notion that makes the joke "funny." Not hateful. Not mean. Not anything--except "funny." You could also this as a gibe against the nominating committee and not John Williams. But I digress....

"Geoff, you ever been to Minneapolis?" "Oh yeah yeah, I've got a place there. Yeah it's great." --- "Geoff, you ever been to Portland?" "Oh yeah, love Portland. I have a place there." (I do miss "in your pants")
