I just watched this movie and had no idea who wrote the music as I watched it. At first the score reminded me of Carter Burwell's lyrical cues from "In Bruges," then other times it brought to mind Desplat's "Coco Before Chanel," so I wasn't surprised to see in the closing credits that it was by Desplat. It's quite lovely, and I re-watched big chunks of the film just to sample some of that music again. So it was disheartening to read here that there isn't a soundtrack CD. I'll try to find some of it online. Addendum: Couldn't find any of it ANYWHERE. And apparently Desplat himself has said that there won't be a soundtrack release. Drat!

There is a magical 2mins.33 secs of desplat's score about half way through the movie when Renoir is painting his model/lover as she wanders naked in a meadow. Thanks to Desplat's otherwordly melody, directed by single 'Ravel-esque' piano notes, the girl's nudity attains an aesthetic quality and is never voyeuristic. Yes, it has a certain erotic charge, but is never lewd. This is absolutely down to the quite enchanting music. A tragedy we can't buy it. The only way I have access to it is by primitively recording it using a mic. I could upload this sectin to Youtube, I guess, if anyone wanted it...

I actually just started watching this yesterday (it's on Amazon Prime, for free) and during the opening credits my interest was quickly piqued! I honestly didn't think it was Desplat (I thought maybe Burwell, as someone else mentioned, I see). I don't often really connect with Desplat, so was pleasantly surprised...and then dismayed when I came on here to look it up and see that there is no commercial release. Just my luck!
