What can I add except... 'We will remember Whenever we remember... The way we were... The way we were...'

I remember Mr. Hamlisch on a broadcast of the Boston Pops conducted by John Williams and when he was about to play the music from Sophie's Choice, he mentioned it had been nominated for an Oscar for best soundtrack that year but had lost and pointed to John Williams who had won for E.T. Got a great laugh from the audience. He was a funny man and I hate to see him go.

This was a shock. I'm looking forward to hearing his score for "The Nutty Professor" when it finally lands on Broadway. What a talented composer -- I've enjoyed and admired his work so much over the years. Very sad news.

RIP I am not familiar with his music at all, but I just now found out that the song being sung by Priscilla Presley and the bad guy in the shower scene in Naked Gun 2.5 is actually Hamlisch' most known, The Way We Were.

A very good composer, good melody man, always in person remind me of what we often call the common man who in a crowd looks like a clerk or bookkeeper walking down fifth ave, enjoyed his autobiography he did years ago, matter of fact pick it up at a Dollar store, saw him many times in the big apple , seem to be everywhere in the 80's, one of my personal favorite piece of his was the ballad, IF YOU REALLY KNEW ME- from THEY ARE PLAYING OUR SONG-but he always wrote good music and for sure songs, It's a shame but in life with our emotions what we gain we also lose, so many people are now living into their 80's and many more into their 90's while of course this is great news, when somebody dies now in their 60's we are more shocked then ever before, it is just the way life is ,R.I.P. MARVIN , R.I.P.

Hamlisch's THE SWIMMER never ceases to move me to tears. Love the film, which the music complements beautifully. Had the LP for years, which was one of my most treasured albums, and I couldn't have been more excited than I was when Lukas and FSM made the complete score available on CD. Thank you. RIP Mr. Hamlisch. http://knifeinthehead.blogspot.com/2012/08/a-maestro-passes.html
