Does anyone now whether Kamen's initial ideas were recorded, and exist, before the intervention of the Fox executives? If so a complete release would be a must have for me

Though I have no first-hand information, someone on this board (I think Erik Woods?) confirmed two weeks ago that Kamen's "original" score was recorded before he was asked to "re-spot" large portions of it.

The score mix in the film is surprisingly low by the way. I just watched it recently and was surprised how far in the back it was. Even in the opening scene. If it were my film, the music would be in the foreground. Viva Kamen!

While it's not quite as good as John Powell's, I think Kamen's score is easily the second best of the X-Men scores (in fact, thinking about it, only those two plus to an extent Beltrami's are anything other than awful). I would love to hear the fabled original score he wrote, if only to find out if the rumours about it are really true.

And by sheer coincidence, I wrote a little review of the old album recently:

I can confirm that. But I don't think he recorded ALL of the music before having to 'shift gears'.

Who runs Music From the Movies? I saw a blurb online that back when the score was recording, they did an interview with Kamen. Surely there might be some answers there. It looks like most, if not all, of the interviews were removed from the MFtM website.

That's great news MV! Just wondering whether it will include the music that Kamen was forced to jettison during the production? Thanks!

What was so radical about Kamen's original approach? I had no idea he re-recorded it. Why was he forced to "change gears"?

According to some information from FSM at the time, Kamen did a number of themes which were not liked by the producers, then there was a rushed production schedule which didn't leave much time to fix things. FSM had said some other people were called into to add the techo elements, but I read an interview with Kamen where he said he called in Badelt to help out (and didn't say there was anyone else).

Wasn't X3 released by Varese? If so not sure if it's on their radar. Don't get me wrong I love the X-Men scores but not sure about an expanded X3 anytime soon.

Hmmm, it was released by Varese. Let's hope they don't hold the rights in perp.

I don't think it was the producers (Richard Donner being who he is) but director Bryan Singer (who is known for being a bit of a hothead when he isn't getting his way.)

This said - Thank you from the very ends of my heart, MV. Kamen's X-Men is something I've always wanted and I hope hope hope that it has some of the unused alternates, especially since the rumor is it was much more "motif" heavy than the finished product.

The original release was already on the long side and wasn't the best listening experience, so need for an expansion. K-Men's X-men would be nice though. Shame we have to wait for a year
