I ran out of work today (this rarely happens) so I came home and watched this. I really enjoyed it for the most part. The soundtrack songs are fantastic and the score really fits the film. I've always enjoyed ambient electronic music as score material anyway. Cliff Martinez was very good at keeping me engaged with the onscreen happenings.
On a side note, did anyone else feel like the violence level/gore didn't really fit well with the movie? I felt like it was completely unnecessary and I'm okay with both. Every time it happened I got that feeling I was being lifted out of the film. Maybe it's just me.
Back to Cliff Martinez, can you guys recommend some more of his work? I'd like to give him a try.
For some reason I always confuse Cliff Martinez with Clint Mansell. It just happens a lot. Hes also great.
Drive was a decent film, the short book I found a bit of a chore to get through due to thè writing style. The violence was brief and painful from what I recall. More realistic maybe? I think it worked ok for me.

Welcome to 2012, man!
In all seriousness, DRIVE was all the rave back then, and deservedly so. It's become a very influential score in the last 6 years.
Martinez is one of my favourite film composers. And THE NEON DEMON (by the same director) is probably my favourite of his so far. Here's an interview/podcast episode I did awhile back that you might find interesting:
