I'm hoping the scratchy distortion I'm hearing in these samples aren't in the actual CD.

James

Is there a single track you hear this on, or all of them? I didn't hear anything unusual.

All of them.

James

Something is wrong with your computer.

Perhaps I have it up too loud & I'm getting distortion. I'll try with headphones.

Nope. Still get it with headphones. It's like a digital distortion. Sounds almost like a scratching noise in the background.

It's always something...

After the sound "problems" fad goes away what's next? The texture of the disc art?

Kiss my ass Joe. I'm legitimately hearing something in the samples. I was just stating that I hope they aren't in the actual discs. Now that I've sampled other FSM CDs at the site I hear it in everything so it must be in the way they stream.

Jesus Christ, why do you have to be such an asshat?

I'd always fantasized I'd hear one of those complete epics that Morricone did for Sergio Leone, including all the stuff he rejected.
This looks like the closest to it. Some of this rejected material is amazing!
Thanks FSM, this release is a real masterpiece!

Well they do use a fairly low bitrate for most of their streams so you must just be hearing something inherent in that. I don't hear any indications of poor tape quality in the samples.

To add a number: 88 kBit/s VBR (Disc 1, Track 1)
So some distortion is naturally to be expected.

maybe theu could put fewer mp3s with higher bit rate...

and a "download all" option! smile

I'd prefer that as well, but Lukas only changed from exactly that previous approach to the status quo 2-3 years ago and I guess he's not planning to go back.

I hope though that he will consider a "play all" option like SAE has for other labels' releases. smile

I LOVE having minute long samples of every track....though I do wish they weren't so low quality either.

Maybe two or three high quality to show off how it really sounds with the rest at the current quality so you can get a musical feel....

By the way, you can use the 'Downloadthemall' plugin for Firefox if you want to get them all at once, and I believe there's a plugin for Chrome that does similar.

If you use firefox, get the foxytune plugin. It does exactly that.

I much prefer having the 1 minute samples of each track to what other labels do with only a few samples total. I don't get surprised by selective samples that give me an indication totally contrary to the actual sound of the music. The bitrate could be slightly improved but it still gives me an indication of the style and sound quality to some extent. You can clearly hear the difference between the samples for Days of Heaven and say Lassie box set.

James, this is the same complaint that you had on Marathon Man last year. The samples are low bit rate so that they load fast and those without broadband can access them quickly, too. Rest assured, anything you're complaining about is a result of the compression to mp3 and does not reflect the sound quality of the final album but it does let you hear the music that is on the album. FSM gives you more to sample than anyone else, as well. There's almost an hours worth of samples there.

Days of Heaven is a beautiful score, beautifully recorded and the final CD sounds great.

Thanks Neil.

I didn't remember saying something about MARATHON MAN. I couldn't imagine you releasing a score that sounded like that on CD so forgive me if this query stirred up a hornet's nest. I always appreciate all the samples of the cues.

Hope you're having fun in San Diego.

James

Some people honestly listen too hard to film music. Just relax.

It's an anal collector mentality. What can I say? At least for now.
