So, within four months (give or take), we've gotten not one, not two, not three or four, but five new releases of Pat Doyle scores?

I, for one, thumb-up this fact! smile

about time to reveal the cover and tracklist unless this one gets delayed too, don't you think?

With 8 days to go, and no sign of it I'm sure we can add this to the "Varese Delay Of the Month Club".

You guys have to realize that what holds these things up often is artwork approvals from the studio/actors/etc.

Be patient.

I think the delays have something to do with Michael Giacchino trying super (8) hard to come up with funny titles.

Oh I'm fine with it. Its just kind of funny. It does beg the question, why dont they just wait to announce a release date until they have it ready? Not to mention, teasers for these big films come out 6 months to a year in advance almost? Its not like some smaller film that suddenly gets a release date a month before. Surely thats more then enough time to get artwork approval. You would think the composer has the tough job! smile

It does beg the question

Quick, somebody call the grammar police!

Seriously, though, I find it strange the amount of hostility leveled at Varèse lately. As if they don't want to get the product out promptly as much as we wish to receive it. The closer to film release it comes out, the more they're likely to get back from their investment. It's not like they twiddle their thumbs on these things just to stick it to impatient fans. The "f-you"s aimed at Varèse in the Super 8 thread and elsewhere have boggled my mind. I suppose none of those people have ever missed a deadline, bitten off more than they could chew or gone overbudget on anything. . .

Unlike other labels Varese has little personal contact on Internet with the filmscore community. They don't have a forum, there's no one like Lukas, MV Gerhard, etc... posting online giving little nuggets of info, clues, previews. And Robert Townson has gone on record saying he hates the filmscore Forums and hate what the people are posting on them.

So for most people here Varese is a bit more faceless as a company. While with FSM, Intrada, Lala Land etc, you associate the label with a name of a person who comes over as rather sympathetic, and who shares your passion.

I can't be doing with apes, monkeys, whatever, in films. Not KK, not Clyde, not those little screechy sods in pirate films, and not even the PG Tips adverts.

On the other hand, Doyle and Pinto....

I'm of the opposite opinion.

Per Homer Simpson, there's NOTHING that couldn't be improved by adding monkeys to it-'Hail to the Chimp' and his restaging of the Battle of Gettysberg with Colobus Monkeys!

And I agree-I can't understand why no grindhouse producer didn't do a Jaws vs King Kong and doesn't Apes on a Plane sound more entertaining than Snakes was?

I agree Chimps are patently evil-far too like human beings but I have a deep love and fascination for Gorillas and Orangs.

And I'm really looking forward to both the movie and the score!

It's really not that big a deal Peter. I think what they want you to NOT say is what you saw on the screen while they were recording.

I got to talk a bit with Robert Townson at the Filmfestival in Ghent here in Belgium last year and he was very kind and rightly so proud of his label. You can tell he is a big fan of film music and I'm sure if you had the chance to meet him (he seems to be around the big film music events) you would come to realise that he cares a great deal about our passion.

I didn't ask him why Varese never bothered with the online community, but if I'd have to guess I'd say Varese was around way before the online community thing started and really doesn't need it (or perhaps is less interested in it than other labels). Don't forget, having these people share their stories and even ask for requests and our input at times, is a privilege, not a service to be taken for granted.

I wish I could go to Comic Con... razz
