Since this thread is up again, someone who could share his opinion on this? Much appreciated.

What's the difference between the Japanese (Victor) and Spanish (Discmedi) release of this score? If there is any (sound-/presentation-wise?). Which one is "the one to go" ...?

I ordered mine (used) from this Amazon page and it is the Victor pressing of the release. The sound quality is very good. No complaints from me.

I always heard the Japanese pressings are superior, but the main reason to lean toward the Victor is that is the only label with volume 2 which I prefer.

It is one of many. But that series I did helped me get over it. It reinforced why I have a love for his music. And frankly I've never seen another such tribute to a composer on here ever, although I certainly would like to.

I would go so far as to say it would not be possible for another major film composer to receive the treatment you've given Morricone and have it be a revelation. The obsession with the scoring of American films means there truly has been nothing new to say about Barry, Williams, Goldsmith, Bernstein, North, Rosza, Herrmann in years, if I may risk saying so. Morricone is one of the few who is so understudied relative to the scale of his contribution.

Most certainly! I'd like to see someone brave enough to undertake such other masterful European composers like Krzysztof Komeda and Zbigniew Preisner or Eastern composers like Shigeru Umebayashi or Akira Ifukube.

Yes, I do like this score. I was really surprised when I found it. I bought it early this year from Intermezzo Media: http://www.intermezzomedia.com/index.php3?SCREEN=item_details&sid=zg5yKUGLTiLLtn6w&item=4995&sku_id=5015
"Musashi encore!!" is outstanding too!

I like Morricones score but, for me, nothing will top Ikuma Dan’s score to the samurai trilogy. Though an original score doesn’t exit the thematic material appears in his Symphony #2.
