I watched this movie for the first time today. I thought it was a lot of fun.

As someone who's lucky enough to own the Varese Club edition of the first Predator score, I would pick up an expanded release of the sequel score in a heartbeat!

It's a fun movie, guilty pleasure, I rewatched on DVD earlier this year... I did find, however, that pretty much all the cues not included on the official album are almost exactly like cues from the first film. I think for the album Silvestri did a great job assembling all the new material with the recapitulations of material from the first score, but it seems to me if someone wanted to hear those unreleased cues they could just listen to the other PREDATOR album from Varese.

I don't suppose you or anyone else here knows the correct track order for the existing Predator 2 album? I might have to treat myself to an iTunes download one of these days. smile

I'm not a massive fan of the movie (actually, I thought it was terrible) but if there was an expanded CD I'd get it.

Whoa 20 years! Well it would be sweet if Varese re-released the complete score via their club deluxe ed? But if they no longer have the rights or are willing to give them up I'm sure like Betenoir said hopefully La-La Land or Intrada would consider releasing it. Fingers crossed.

The correct track order is on my first post.

And the missing music is not merely stuff reused from Predator. Not in the slightest.

As with all record companies, if they think they can make some money with it, sooner or later they'll release it

I would ADORE an expanded release for Predator 2! I was lucky enough to get the release of the original film's music, but have put off getting the second film's album. I don't know why, but it's not high on my priorities. However, if someone were polite enough to release more music on a remastered album... I'd go for it. ; )

P.S: I also love Judge Dredd but haven't bought the current album since these expansions are so common lately. Oh, and The Long Kiss Goodnight would be nice too.

Damn I love Silvestri('s music).

Perhaps we should start asking Intrada for this.

PREDATOR 2 is a much more interesting score than the original, IMHO. I would love to see (hear) more of it available. Same goes for JUDGE DREDD (big time!) and THE MUMMY RETURNS.

The CD of "Predator 2" is all echoed up. The orchestra sounds like it's a mile away.

If an expanded version was to be done, I'd hope all that reverb would be removed. But there's always the chance it was on the original master. If that's the case I'd pass. The score although good is mediocre when compared to the original.

I think PREDATOR 2 is a superior score to the prequel, but I think the existing Varese disc is MORE than good enough. It ends just when it has to (after the brilliant "End Titles" tour-de-force). This kind of music often becomes repetitive and grating if drawn out ad nauseaum.

No expansion needed for this man!

Not for you, For me. Though i would love album-edits of THIS IS HISTORY and TUNNEL CHASE in the Bonus Section.

Thanks for posting this - I for one would snap up an expanded (or even remastered) Predator 2 in a heart-beat!

I *do* have to confess however that I've never actually owned the original Varese release! I've seen your notes about the truncated and mixed-up (order) of the tracks that DO feature. However, I was wondering what the general sound quality is like on the Varese release please?

This one I mean:

Thanks for any info anyone has on this.

Well, I've never had a problem with the sound quality of PREDATOR 2, but then I never knew the channels were reversed on THE FUGITIVE.....

Hehe that made me laugh big grin

The Varese predator 2 album was very good to start with, but I wouldn't mind an expansion or an upgrade in quality. It's Silvestri's "Rambo" in therms of going all out with the sequel.

Hearing the opening notes of the original, I always think ahead in my mind that it will burst into the speedup version of the sequel, but it just goes back to the original rhythm big grin

Thor, I think your comment is quite ludicrous. You say that Predator 2 is a superior score then go on to say the current CD is MORE than enough. The expanded score would be 80 minutes. The 1990 CD is 45. So...you'd be happy with half of a superior score.

You sense make no.

And don't give us the repetitive/boring complaint. Much of the score left off the album are completely new cues. It's not like it would be the same thing over and over.

And Mr. Manhunter, the 1990 CD is very quiet. Some tracks are shortened, one is completely different from what was used in the film. The cover art isn't very nice either and there's no liner notes.

Predator 2 really, really does need a remaster and an expansion.

I respect Thor's opposing C&C argument, but as I see it there's one big flaw in it. How do you know that the music as presented on the album has all the meat of the score? Without knowing any of the unreleased cues, how can you make an assumption that everything vital is presented?

There are many albums that lack amazing cues simply because of time constraints (the 30 minute, 40 minute format) and almost give a completely different feel of that score as to what it really embodies. Poltergeist II is a big example of this, omitting most of the choir and action pieces. Sometimes it's the composer's choice, at others it's the label, ...

I'm certainly interested in what's left off from Predator 2, especially if it means getting more of the percussion orientated cues as I found those very fresh and daring at the time.

I miss some bass and it seems that a remixing is needed - like the one they did for INTRADA ROBOCOP - and it seems that the sound goes a bit over the yellow-volume-limit at times (e.g. the opening sting of the end title)

BTW check out my youtube profile - it has one speeded-up video with the main title from PREDATOR 2 - what is interesting is that in the commentary field - Ray Jones - the soloist (hoseeon - the sounds that sound like a better vuvuzula horn) has commented on the video where he tells a bit of the work he did wink

Not to answer for Thor...but I will big grin

It doesn't matter what is missing, Thor is basing his opinion on the CD presented AS IS - no matter if spectacular cues are missing or not. He was also happy with the 25 minute Geffen presentation of Innerspace, which was missing huge vital cues - but - based on the presentation as is...he's happy
