One of the most beautiful scores ever -- the lp and CD are treasures in my collection. This was a blind buy back in the day -- based on Mr. Cook's column and a composer friend who saw the film and raved about the music. I recall putting the lp on my trusty Thorens and suddenly being transported by music that was heartbreaking and gorgeous.

Storytime with Peter.. 1997 or 1998, I'm working the front dest of my dorm, Tichenor Hall. I'm looking through today's BSU newspaper and I notice this little article saying David Shire and a singer, I forget her name, but I think she's well known, is doing a show at Ball State. I say to myself, oh wow, COOL. I'm not, least at that moment of my life, too familiar with Shire, besides Oz and his Bay Cities compilation. I say, well I need to get a ticket for that. Then I check the date and then look at the calendar, HOLY SHI-, that's today, actually it's going on RIGHT NOW. I call my RA, then I call EVERYONE that works the desk and beg and plead for them to come immediatly to the desk to cover my shift. I only had a little bit left 1-2 hours. So I find someone and I run, I mean RUN up 3 flights of stairs, grab Return To Oz and head to Pruis Hall. This was WAY before I started doing autographs, for some reason, I just thought it would be cool to bring it and see if he may sign it. I didn't get another autograph for 10 years as it wasn't my thing. Anyway back to storytime. I run over to pruis and I hear the last number. Shire is at the piano and the lady is singing and I think, there may have been a VERY VERY small ensemble of strings. I may be mistaken. The show ends and that was it, Pruis Hall is very small so I go up there and chat to Shire for a moment and tell him how much Oz means to me and that this score sits proudly and I mean very proudly next to Herbert Stoharts wonderful score. Along with the song writing team as well. He tells me how much Oz meant to him and it is his favorite he's done. I asked him to sign it and he found a pen and signed the inside. This was way before me knowing I like it signed on the front. YEARS later I found him and wrote to him, told him about Muncie and meeting him and sent him a few covers to sign and sent him another OZ cover and he signed them all on the front. He even wrote me a small note saying he remembers Muncie and all that nice stuff. I still have the newspaper clipping SOMEWHERE, wish I knew where, love to have DS sign it. So here's a couple pics of my covers.. ENJOY!!! I liked how he signed it in green like, possibly, Emerld City Green.. he he hee

It's the same pressing various outlets used to sell when Bruce made them available a couple of years ago. So, the one above you've linked is from him.

Phew, thanks!!! Some guys on Soundtrack Collector were saying it was a fake but it looked to good to be one. Ah, I see, that's the place of ignorance over there. You shouldn't listen to them.

Shire stands there with Goldsmith and Barry in my top 3. I would not be anywhere without his scores that dominated my life when I was a child! In an adult age, The Conversation, Farewell My Well, The Hindenburg, Zodiac, and All the President's Men are theraputic and always welcome for a listen!

I was revisiting this one over the weekend... The BCD 3001 Bay Cities release. Anyway, check the cool pic of DS below. (I removed the pic in a post edit, and just put the link.) http://www.angelfire.com/tx/returntooz/rtzlsoa.jpg No pic came up, just some logo that said Angel Fire hosted or something.
