I found these at a thrift-type store, one that sells things like whole boxes of corks, old National Geographics, bolts of leftover upholstery fabric, etc.

I didn't buy, although I should have gotten at least one since they were unique for the time: a whole pant-load of the 2-LP version of THE PHANTOM MENACE.

I used to be a thrift store junkie until about 5 years ago. I would go a few times a week to different stores and browse their LPs and CDs and sheet music. I would almost always leave with a stack of soundtracks and other records. At 25 - 99 cents a pop, it was a cheap way to sample different titles that I never heard before. And most of the time I was pleasantly surprised. However, my collection started getting too massive and I had to just quit cold turkey.

Some of my favorite soundtrack LP finds back in the day were: DUCK YOU SUCKER, WATERHOLE #3, DEATH WISH II, DRACULA (Williams), BUCK ROGERS, TROLL, RETURN OF THE JEDI (Wicket Picture Disc), a complete Elvis movie soundtrack collection for $25, AMERICAN FLYERS, ENTER THE DRAGON (Promo), SUPERFLY TNT, HEAVY METAL: THE SCORE (Promo), SHAFT'S BIG SCORE! (Promo), RUNAWAY, and KRULL.
Cool CD finds included: THE FINAL COUNTDOWN, LAND BEFORE TIME, STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE (Japanese Issue), STAR TREK IV and VI, and KUNG FU: THE LEGEND CONTINUES.
And Sheet Music finds: THE ICE PIRATES, STAR TREK: TMP, KRULL, DRAGONSLAYER, SPACEHUNTER, and many more. smile

Thor,
Please don't write off the age of the lp just yet. I have thousands of soundtrack lps in my collection and a good many either have never appeared on CD or the transfer is horrid at best if they have.

So many of the mastertapes have been lost that a mint copy of an lp release might just be necessary in order to save it for history.

I love soundtracks on lp and cd or R2R tape and have had so many "finds" that it is difficult to remember them all.

But we don't have the steam engines to power the LP machines anymore razz

Hahaha. Sometimes I refer to dial-up internet as being gravity-powered internet.

Well... the search function actually worked for me just now for the first time!
Anyhooooooo...
I was just at a local thrift store(Not a franchise), and found Williams' Harry Potter and the Scorcerer's Stone... mint condition... for a BUCK!
With the exception of that well-known piece from the film, I'd never heard a note. WONDERFUL MUSIC, but am I the only one in thinking that it sounds an awful lot like The Nutcracker at times?
I think someone gave a kid this CD for Christmas just so the kid could get that ticket thing to try and win a prize, because, as I said, even the JEWEL CASE is scratch-free... I doubt the CD was ever played!

My local Pound Shop (chain store) had several copies of Gladiator recently when I was in a few days ago. Not long ago they also had a Harry Potter score and Out Of Africa.

Quite funny reading comments from some years ago about LPs being dead. Who'd have thunk it?

Probably my greatest thrift store find is when I found Randy Edelman's "Diabolique" at Rainbow Records for only 99 cents!

Yeah, noticed the same thing. Just 5-6 years ago, and the development since then.

Forgot to mention I got it for 99 cents!.

A friend of mine bought Lionheart from a Goodwill down the street for $3.00 and gave it to me on account of my collection being robbed.

I check the local charity shops pretty regularly - quite often find soundtrack CDs that I'm willing to give a whirl for 50p or whatever.

Occasionally something interesting on vinyl. 1970s gatefold Silva Screen version of King of Kings, which turned out to have a booklet about the production of the movie and three promo stills inside; no idea whether they were part of the issue or just tucked in there by the previous owner for reasons unknown. That probably cost me a pound. Yes, Giorgio for 50p.

I picked up Michael Kamen's score to THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN CD at a second-hand record shop in Brooklyn twenty years ago for only $4.50.

After reading ZardozSpeaks's funny post, I'd hate to know where one would pick up a used copy of "50 Shades of Grey" from...

Years ago a local Woolworths had stacks of deleted UA Soundtracks including Hallelujah Trail, Hawaii, Return Of the Seven etc. My ‘find’ was multiple copies of George Delarue’s ‘Chinese Adventures in China’ most of which I sold off. Another find later was a stereo Elmer Benstein’s Marlboro Country Magnificent 7.
Ah yes; those were the days. Boring now.
