BTW, anyone knows why the movie ended being so messed?

Did the studio forced director to cut it? The money ended?

What happened?

The Tangerine Dream scores are getting remastered releases, hope "The Keep" will not be forgotten.

Are you serious? That's awesome! Can you put up a link to the info?

Seconded to the above - I LOVE TD, followed them since I was a laddie, but
they are far too prolific lately - and unlike the iffy Seattle/Miramar years, producing
some VERY good stuff as of late. Between all this film score nonsense I love so bad,
I just can't keep up.

I hear you. Not too long ago on another thread I was saying how I had to stop buying everything I saw with their name on it because I just couldn't keep up either. The last thing was "Mota Atma", I think.

"Sorcerer" is my favorite Tangerine Dream score and oddly enough like "The Keep" another movie that is struggling to get a much needed director's cut/rerelease if any at all. There have also been rumors of a director's cut release but so far zilch. "The Keep" is a great score, an interesting but flawed movie and a great book.

Sorcerer has had a new 4K master made and will be released on Blu ray next year. The US cut is the theatrical cut. Can't wait for that one! Now we just need The Keep and Thief on Blu....

As for the remastered TD scores, are you referring to BSX and Near Dark or is TDI doing something?

I feel bad for saying it, but that's sort of what I am hoping would NOT happen.
I love his work, but I'm not quite sure that Mr. Froese has his finger on the pulse of what his fans want.

I find his remixed material unlistenable.

Cool, can't wait to see the 4k master! And yes, I meant the recent BSX Near Dark and Sorcerer was remastered and re-released not long ago as well (sorry if I got people's hopes up). I do hope that aside from "The Keep", "Firestarter" gets a new release as well, but it seems inevitable smile

I really wish someone would release the actual film mixes of these scores. Legend, Thief, Firestarter, Near Dark, Risky Business all have significantly different material still collecting dust.

At least Sorcerer is very well covered, especially with the recent premier cd release of SPHERES movement 3. Love that track!

And then of course there are all the terrific unreleased scores for The Soldier, The Keep, Red Heat, Vision Quest, Strange Behavior, etc. Nothing quite like early 80's TD.

It comes in a 2 cd cardboard case. Sounds much better than my old vinyl transfer!

BTW, Friedkin JUST posted this in facebook:

"Friends.
Sorcerer will be on WB blu-ray April 14.
In theatres before that, from Paramount,
Then TV from Universal. The print is
Fantastic."

From "The keep" I only need "Stealing The Silver Cross" and "Romania Road".
The first has the typical TD ominous weirdness that can also be reheard, to a lesser extent, in Johannes Schmoelling's ZEIT (For Stephan).
The second is just a very very pleasant and uplifting piece of music that has anyone who doesn't know the film and the story fooled by seeming to be from a happy everday story.

Alas, that is probably why Mann didn't use this piece! smile

In answer to an actual question from you, Scott Glenn told me that effects man Wally Veevers passed away before he was able to finish the sequence. Various effects people were called in, but no one could figure out the process he used in order to finish the scene, which I believe involved significant wire work. So they basically had to go with what they had, hence the truncated ending. However, you can watch a longer finale here.

Here's an excellent KEEP fan site as well.

They just played a print at Cinefamily. A brilliantly atmospheric, mind-boggling horror movie. Still my all-time grail to see out on CD one of these days.

Stephane Piter took down most of the interesting stuff from this site, since he is co-producing the documentary. Now it's mainly just fan art.
