I remember catching the film a few times on telly over the years (I did see the film at the cinema originally) and hearing music, really good music, we never had on the old LP/CD, but I didn't know there was SO MUCH unreleased (or unused).
The sad, plaintive stuff by Horner in this film (like COCOON) is both gorgeous AND heartbreaking.
Lots of the suspense music is Horner riffing on Herrmann, to my ears.
Really looking forward to this one smile

Yeah, I pulled it out last night and heard Sisters in that weird "Arson" cue.

We'll have to wait for the CD to arrive. The Intrada website now states this:

because of a pressing plant error, this release has been delayed and will likely begin shipping late Sept / early Oct

More info from Roger on the Intrada message board:

In one of the more annoying discoveries, we opened up the new set only discover that the plant had forgotten the second disc. That's a pretty big and frustrating miss. The plant has been notified and will be fixing as quickly as possible, but needless to say this release will be delayed a bit. Thanks Obama!

Would have been impressive if there were batteries in there.

If you like your second disc, you can keep your second disc.

Was always happy with the MCA content, fine score. Fair-play to Intrada BNI looks great, I'm not a lover who DD, but unquestionably this one can't be denied, thank you (Intrada looking forward to this cool expanded) very much.

After the mixed reaction The Mummy/The Mummy Returns sets got, I'm a tad nervous for this one in terms of its sound mixing and such. I'll wait for reactions before jumping in.

I don't get the comments on Mummy Returns -- it features the same Shawn Murphy mixes and EQ as the original MCA album. That's all there is so if you don't like that mix or the quality of the recording, you will find no solace in the original album because they are same. The only solution is to rerecord the score.

For Mummy, Bruce Botnik remixed it with a different way of thinking. You can hear much more detail than the MCA release, but the mix is definitely different. It's not bad or wrong, just different. We all get hooked on what's familiar to us. So if you prefer the original mix, that's fair. But there aren't that many people who can mix 48-track digital.

Regarding Batteries, again we used Shawn's original mix, but the album was cut low so the levels were raised so it wasn't so quiet.

Sounds cool.
A LOT of old (and newer) Horner scores have bad lows followed by even worse highs.
But brickwallin ain't the answer. Just listen to some Varese expansions that make things worse!!
I hope 'raising some levels' here makes this one sing.

No, brickwalling makes no sense with orchestral music. I think you'll be happy with the sound of Batteries. If we ever get it back.

Roger, I haven't listened to this yet, but I really appreciate that you did this. The need to do this on some of those quiet Horner scores was brought to the fore-front with the Rocketeer. So Thank you so very much. I hope Willow gets this same boost while preserving the dynamic range. Three cheers!
