No "Final Confrontation"? Mister Elfman, you're slipping!

Elfman always joked about getting into trouble with someone for always reusing the same titles. He's pretty much stopped now - no more 'Main Titles' or 'Finale' either. Only 'Weepy Donuts' has survived.

I'm hoping Europe will save the day with a pressed CD.
Otherwise, it'll be Japan who will do one.

Listening to samples on iTunes. It's a lot of fun for Elfman fans with lots of energetic orchestral action music, plenty of grand choral bombastic and a very pretty sounding solo choir boy for the emotional parts. Just from samples, I'd say the Elfman score it most reminds me of at the moment is Oz, with a fair bit of Frankenweenie and Iris thrown in. Looking forward to trying to full album tomorrow.

Most of it's up on YT now.
Pretty nice stuff. Not going to win folks over that have gotten weary of his sound, but I'm finding it a pretty pleasant Christmassy listen. This is my favorite cue so far.

listening to the second track from the song-CD... with Elfman putting in EVERYTHING: the la-la-la chorus, the oooh-oooh, the little boy solo voice, the quick changes in tone, the prokofiev-like phrases, his 80-90's orchestral trademarks... even a theremin!!! very very busy music, but ultimately BORING for me

I agree, Elfman always seems like the nicest guy, and he has always seemed to work really hard, a lot of times his scores are pretty good. But I would put right him right behind Horner as the reuse king, amongst other toolbox stuff he has been recycling that choral la la stuff for many many years, his career high point, between Batman in 1989 and Edward Scissorhands in 1990 was used as a template ever since.

This is not the kind of Elfman I go for these days. In the last 10 years or so, I've found his big blockbuster scores either boring or grating (for the most part). But he shines like never before in the indie pics or non-Hollywood films in general. THAT'S the kind of Elfman I prefer these days.

Please, let's do NOT start this discussion yet again, pretty please!! Because I'm tired of it, and it's all on a subjective matter of personal taste.

Those indie pics or non-Hollywood films in general (as you call them) are the WORST in Elfman's output. I found things like "Don't Worry He Won't Get Far on Foot" or "The End of the Tour" as completelly unlistenable.

Elfman really shines (to use your words) when he's Elfman himself, using the style he's beloved for, with all his la-las, oh-ohs and Prokofiev-manierisms. Otherwise, he's NOT the real Elfman. I'm speaking of a strong personality vs. a loss of it here.

Ha, ha....did we discuss this already?

I'm no doubt going to need THE GRINCH as an Elfman completist, even if it's not my preferred style of his these days. I hope he'll get another indie-type assignment soon. There is nothing of that on his upcoming slate -- only big Hollywood things like DUMBO and DOCTOR DOLITTLE.

Thank God!

Several times.

I know we discussed big and boisterous music vs. slower, indie, ambient stuff, but I can't recall Elfman was part of it. Could be. Either way, we are no doubt on polar opposites in terms of taste these days (unless we go back to the 90s and earlier, where we seem to have more in common).

Elfman's Justice League discussion comes to mind.

Either way, we are no doubt on polar opposites in terms of taste these days (unless we go back to the 90s and earlier, where we seem to have more in common).

I know, but I'm happy that we still can have a respectful (and even joysterous) discussion.

Good lord, Thor and I might agree on something.

I have enjoyed Elfman's, Epic, which works somewhat against that big orchestra cliche' and I like his score to Peabody and Sherman

Not a fan of this style of writing and one of my main criticisms of The Nutcracker. (that it sounds like an Elfman score in spots.)

Regarding the film. Did not need to be made! Another classic bastardized.

Pretty sure Ron Howard already did that.

Heck, I’d definitely say this is at least better than Horner’s Grinch. It actually feels like a Christmas score!
