Please, somebody enlighten me, because I still don't get Varese's logic these days. Why include a Deluxe Dreamcatcher in this kind of set, dammit?!!

So, if someone is interested in that particular title only, if he wants to get it then he's forced to buy the whole set, and pay a higher price. Also, worst is that this ends the posibillity for this title to get a proper single CD release in the so called Deluxe series, as all previous JNH titles.

Yeah... couldn't care less about the rest of the titles besides JNH either...

ton of unwanted crap + higher shipping fees because of unwanted stuff + most likely those shitty sleeves again = Easy to pass!

Maybe you should wait and see what the price tag is.
Yavar

And why not release the price tag with the announcement???

A 2CD-Release of "The Stand"?
Never had the slightest hope that this would ever, ever happen! eek

Hopefully it will include a full rendition of "Baby, Can You Dig Your Man". wink

Thanks so much, Varese! smile

I have no problem with the scores included in this set, but if the price is outrageous or they are in "those shitty sleeves", you can count me out. I hope the picture from the OP is not what they are being released in!

This is an old argument frequently mentioned in boxset threads. It will never be resolved.

Patience is a virtue. After all, years after the Karate Kid boxset, three out of those four scores got single releases and I didn't complain then (as those resources could've easily been allocated to unreleased titles, for instance).

You'd think the important thing would be 'OMG! Dreamcatcher is getting a deluxe edition!' Hmmm.

Higher priced collections that force the consumer to spend more money. (or miss out on a title they want) Extremely limited runs. No sound samples. You don't see these kind of high jinks from any other specialty label.

That's right. I already forgot that nobody complained when you had to buy two discs of "Next Generation" music to get the "Star Trek" animated music from La La Land. And that there was no carping when FSM put out their expensive MGM box set. And how nobody wanted only "To Kill a Mockingbird" from the Intrada Bernstein collection. Thanks for reminding me!

I also forgot how other labels always put up sound samples weeks in advance. And that Intrada didn't just do a 500 copy run of "Terrorvision." My memory is shot!

I have to agree, though, I'm imagining that this will cost hundreds of dollars. I'm so mad that Varèse has made me imagine such a ridiculous cost!

(1) Plenty of ppl complained. At least it's all "Star Trek" music. Which made the compilation somewhat appropriate.

(2) A rarity. If it was Varese, Terrorvivsion would most certainly be paired with an expensive box set.

(3) Your sarcasm fails as usual.

Dolores Claiborne is one.

Christine, The Thing, even Carrie.

Stephen King wrote the book The Thing was based on? Which was published nine years before King was even born? Talk about a prodigy.

2CD from The Stand is terrific! But I will not buy this set just to get that one. I already have Firestarter, and it doesn't look like that one is expanded. The Shining is not interesting, and Dreamcatcher is not among my favourites by JNH.

Awesome, will buy this for sure. (Even though Dreamcatcher is not one of JNH`s best scores but I think that sometimes a deluxe edition may change my view of it).

What, really? It's exactly that: the reuse fees for an LA orchestra (like Dreamcatcher) are prohibitively expensive. The more Varese offers these type of scores in boxsets where the high price of the set (and the low or nonexistent reuse fees of some of the other titles on it ) makes it a less risky venture. It's a MUCH better bet that King's name will sell a few sets at conventions, etc, whereas Dreamcatcher on it's own wouldn't be nearly as likely to recoup the staggering cost of its licensing.

Sigh...son of a bitch. This sucks. I've been hoping for Dreamcatcher Deluxe for years and years. I've been calling for it whenever I could and asking Varese directly for it. It's been one of my most sought-after JNH expansions. I love it, it's an amazing score worthy of expansion. I have absolutely no interest in the other scores in this collection though, and I'm not in a position to buy the box just for one score. This really sucks.

Same thing with Dracula 2000. I'm one of the biggest Beltrami fans out there and have always wanted that score expanded, and when it finally was, it was in a package surrounded by other scores that held zero interest to me and again, I couldn't (nor did I want to) foot the bill. So that score was out of my reach as well.

Two scores I've wanted for a very, very long time. I loathe these "collections" and groupings into box sets -- if they're not going to be made available separately. It's unfairly exclusory and it sucks.

It's pretty clear their focus isn't on score fans anymore. Instead going for special collections and packages which might attract main stream buyers.

That couldn't be further from the truth. I wish people would stop making it seem the people at Varese sit around in an evil boardroom to screw with fans. Horror fans buy these kinds of sets and many LOVE scores. Secondly, have you met ANYBODY at the label because I know all of them and they are great people who talk about the fans regularly.

So tired of the negative attacks on this label. /rant off

I'll take a wild guess and say that this set will be priced at $99. And I love film scores and all things King, so it's a pretty sure bet I'll get this.

Dreamcatcher... Tempting

And did anyone consider the fact that this might have been the only way to release some of these scores and still make a profit? Lest some of you forget... Varese is a business, with employees, office space, manufacturing costs, studio fees, etc etc and no one there drives fancy cars. It's this or nothing, but I guess some people here would just prefer nothing. Take a moment to put yourself in the shoes of a small business owner. Selling these collections can help keep the lights on for the company rather than selling 125 copies of an expanded Dreamcatcher on its own.

Well FSM did have that MGM (really UA) grab-bag Treasury box that a lot of people complained about at the time, and it was also limited to 1500 and sold out really fast -- it was the only FSM box I missed out on acquiring.

Ultimately, 11 of the 20 scores in that box set were released on separate discs by either Quartet or Kritzerland. Easy to do for MGM-controlled titles, but for those where Varese holds the rights, not so much.

If I can cut through the whining, a little taste of Nicholas Pike's work for the Torrances:

I'm going to get the set (there are all a decent set of tunesmiths, after all).
