After the "Gladiator" lawsuit, maybe Ridley Scott didn't feel like hiring Hans Zimmer again.

A Horner Star Wars would have been... Interesting. As much as I love Rogue One I would very much have liked to have heard Desplat.

Anyone breathing a huge sigh of relief that Ron Howard wasn't allowed to bring Zimmer onboard? Me...Powell is a much better fit for Star Wars. Yavar Agreed. Powell is easily my favourite composer to come from the RCP bunch and has been rather reticent in the world of film scoring since 2010 let's say. His focus on concert works of late just confirms his artistic integrity (along with the fact that he's publicly stated he's not interested in violent action fare). I think it's a wonderful choice but like some have pointed out, let's keep our fingers crossed that he will remain on the project. I'm a little worried only because of the Roque Banos situation with Howard on his last picture. The score was rather bland compared to his wonderful work on Evil Dead and even compared to the snippets Howard had filmed and posted on Twitter during the scoring sessions. That said, it seemed like that was a troubled project based on when Howard's twitter vids came out and the release date of Heart of the Sea...

Somehow, I try to imagine how Christopher Young would fare scoring such a movie....

I would have loved to hear a Zimmer STAR WARS too, but Powell is ACE!! Goodness gracious. Really? Zimmer already desecrated the memory of Elfman's Batman music and insulted it no less by calling it silly happy music or something like that, then he desecrated the memory of Superman's music and now you want to hear what he's going to do with Star Wars? I'm sure it would still be interesting to hear a Zimmer Star Wars score. Although, I hope I don't live long enough to experience it. Would he use a sound design approach claiming that he couldn't even try to match William's classic score? Would he create a synthesized score with a few orchestral instruments like he usually does? Would he actually use real orchestral instruments only, for the first time in his career? Interesting questions. But the reality is, there will be so many Star Wars movies made in the next few years that many different composers may have to be involved. I would hope though, that Zimmer wouldn't try to reduce the classic Star Wars theme down to the first two notes though. That may upset a few people including myself.

A lot of composers before Zimmer? For me, that's a false premise; I wouldn't put Zimmer on there at all. I could probably name almost two dozen choices and never would an MV/RC composer come up.

Zimmer desecrated the memory of Elfman's and Williams's music? Get a grip, man. Also, Zimmer used "real orchestral instruments only" in The Thin Red Line, so that argument fails, too.

Totally incorrect. There's a to of synths in TRL.
