Few other composers capture the element of flight as well as Horner (perhaps only Williams comes close), so this can only be a good thing.
Bring on the soundtrack!
Indeed. Rocketeer, the opening to Star Trek III, the titles of Land Before Time and The Horsemen Cometh are among my favorite cues ever.
Great news.
I'm not familiar with the Horsemen Cometh that Horner scored. Was there a soundtrack release for this?
There was a very limited issue of the 2 track soundtrack cd along with the documentary on blu ray format. Both were available as a single set. OOP The DVD also features a video devoted to James Horner as the 4rth Horseman.

And all if it was (is?) available as a lossless virtual release.
For anyone curious but too lazy to click on the link posted above, the expected release date for both the movie and the soundtrack is sometime in October. Looks like this may indeed be Horner's last original soundtrack album, even if you count The Magnificent Seven, as that film/score is due in September.
One of the last original written, but there's a number of completely unreleased early scores, at least a couple AFI shorts, and scores that weren't used like the recent "Romeo & Juliet".
Wow, from those samples this sounds incredible... it will be short, but a fitting and memorable close to his incredible career.
It really seems like we were on the verge of a Horner renaissance following his inspired work on The Amazing Spider Man, Wolf Totem, and Living in the Age of Airplanes. At his age, he had at least another full decade of top scores in him plus the upcoming barrage of Avatar sequels for him to build on. Such a shame on so many levels.
Now that we have THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN and COLLAGE, this is the next big Horner release. October is a long month -- when exactly will it arrive? I can't wait.
