Isn't it sad that a "large" black cloud can post irrelevant and insulting garbage on a great thread and attempt to ruin it?

Moving on, I have an Amazon story to share. About 2 years ago I contacted a seller about a very expensive soundtrack with a question about the condition of the liner notes. I expressed how much I had enjoyed the music when I had seen the movie years before. Well, to my surprise, the seller contacted me, answered my question and offered to take $30.00 off the price of the item. I was in shock. The seller told me to reply to their email and as soon as they received the reply, the price would be lowered. I was almost giddy with anticipation while waiting for the price to change. It took a little time but I grabbed it when it came up with the lower price. I received the item and it was indeed in pristine shape. I think I used up all the characters in leaving feedback for this seller. This seller could have easily gotten the higher price for the item. Truly nice thing to do.

And some folks just choose to ignore the others who post as well.

Choosing to be blind isn't some to be proud of.

Oh well.

As far as I'm concerned I've had nothing but very positive experiences with AMAZON, I've been able to get many titles I've needed at a very reasonable price very quickly.

There are still quite a few titles that aren't available DIGITALLY that can only be found on CD or LP and AMAZON makes tracking those down very easy for the most part.

eBay can be much harder for a variety of reasons, but AMAZON has come through for me almost 100% of the time and it also makes getting imports very easy as well.

I've had mostly good experiences buying CD's from Ebay and Amazon, both new and used. On the other hand I've had horror stories buying DVD's off of those two retailers.

Irrelevant is one thing, insulting is another. I am not blind to the latter.

This comes from a man who should know a lot better. You mister Thaxton have several times replied to topics that you should have not.

According to whom exactly And who decides?

You, apparently!

My story is that about 12 years ago I put a Morricone disc up on eBay, and got a reply back that went something like: "Why are you asking so much money for this terrible noise?"

At this point, I could have chosen several types of response. Unusually for me, I decided to be mollifying and simply said that if he didn't like it, then don't bid. He immediately emailed back to apologise, he'd mixed me up with a friend of his and was actually taking the mickey with his first comment. We went on to be very good friends for a while, sending packages of discs, magazines and comestible delicacies between Yorkshire and Bavaria. I lost touch with him after a few years, but won't forget him in a hurry.

Amazon are like my Tower Records now.
The other week, upon leaving the David Arnold concert in London, I just had to own Amazing Grace after hearing it during the show.
In the past, I would have raced to Tower before midnight and picked up the CD, but cos they went and shut up shop (the hounds), I was straight online and bagging a copy for a fiver off Amazon.
Okay, it wasn't in my hands the same night, but A FIVER!!!! And what's a few days wait?
Plus, the waiting is part of the joy.

Amazon Prime is a great deal for someone who buys frequently like our family. We own a business and buy many of our business items through Amazon using Prime. You can go monthly or annually. Just a few days I grabbed a copy of Nat King Cole Sings George Shearing Plays for song (no pun intended) and paid no postage due to prime.

I utilize eBay as well. I love the Make An Offer option. I have had so many sellers accept my offers. I try not to be insulting but I also try to make one that benefits me. smile

And this is why buying a CD with Ford Thaxton's credit on it feels like you're supporting the Taliban!

LOL Francis

Kev,

I guess I am going to have to step in and back you up, since no one else seems to want to agree.
Now, Ford can have someone else to call a fanboy, except I admit I am a fangirl. Ford, do you not have any re-performed releases to be working on?

Anyway, I have have no major problems with Amazon and that is where I buy most of my Intrada titles from to get free shipping. Ebay I have had only problems. Receiving CDs that are not as described, scratched, jewel case completely crushed, CD missing from the jewel case, etc. The most disturbing thing is the lack of policing of b**tlegs that are sold on both sites.

I found the long out-of-print Silva 'Twilight Zone 40th Anniv. 4-CD Collection' at Amazon about 2 months ago for $60 incl. shipping. That's no more than list price and I had Amazon credits.

Still- that Silva album is sooo worth it.
The 2 Varese albums are fine, but this is everything from the 5 LPs that the Varese albums are culled from- and it's all gold.
I don't understand why Varese never released everything to begin with. Was licensing costs and such an issue with material from that era?

I found '9-5' for $30 just by doing a 'CD Soundtrack' search on eBay.
A touch pricy but it came up in a random search just at the time I was actively looking to acquire it.

My husband found the long out of print T. Newman score CD of 'Fried Green Tomatoes' ~1-1/2 yrs ago for $15.

The Arrogance of Fanboys.

Ford A. Thaxton

Is it just me, or is the combination of those words beyond funny?

Actually, The Taliban would be rather more offended here. lol

Two good stories:

One ebay buyer was kind enough to waive my payment entirely for a cd item-(I think it was the BEN HUR Decca cd) and wanted me to donate the funds during the horrific earthquake in my country in 2005 instead.

The other was that the ebay seller sent me a freebie- One of his favourite soundtracks. It was the FSM issue of THE EGYPTIAN. He had an extra copy and gave away to me as bonus surprise (in hindsight I think it was a member of the FSM board who probably knew me from here wink

Oh yeah another one: I did a review of Williams JFK cd on Amazon.com and this ebay seller was using my entire review to promote the sale of the cd and I think he said something to the effect" as the best review of this item- thanks again! I was flattered of course.

I have one really interesting story, which taught me that patience is MOST important in our "business".
It was 2009. eBay sellers mostly didn't ship any CDs to Russia. I have a good friend who helped me with one CD - "rare promo" for High Road To China. I got it as present and it's arrived just in my birthday (rare coincidence!).
Now you can guess, that happened next - in next 10 days BSX released their official version (which I bought myself this time).
Of course I didn't pay any cent for promo edition, but this case taught me - patience & patience again. And you can get CD that you want! This principle worked well with dozens CDs from my wish-list (The Fury, Home Alone 2, Star Trek:V, Godzilla as examples).

Couldnt agree more. I got most of my holy grails off ebay. Eventually things got out when many of these OOP cds were re-iussed as expanded/ complete editions by likes of Intrada and LLL.

Yes, can't count how many times I followed auctions for the promo of "Young Sherlock Holmes" that sold insanely high on ebay, to eventually just buy the intrada version for regular price (and a signed one for that matter).

Sold my Varese Ghostbusters for £150 on Amazon. I was quite happy with that. smile
