Must say that I am not that happy with this Grammy for Newman. I think most people in here would agree that the Bond scores are something special, especially the Barry ones, even Conti`s, Martin`s, Hamlisch`s and Arnold`s efforts. But compared to these, Skyfall was ok, but nothing very special. And nothing that deserved an award. I am so afraid that giving awards to efforts like this will make the producers think that what is adequate is "the best", and not allow others to step in. I think Newman has shown us what he can do, but I expect he will be back for the next with Mendes directing again, and being nominated for the Oscar ,getting the Grammy etc. Which is a pity, since he will contribute nothing new. As was the problem with a lot of Arnolds wall to wall action musiser.

I would prefer Arnold to Newman, but very much like to se Desplat do a Bond.

The Grammys and Oscars are more about who is flavour of the month, and not necceasasrily the best quality and most deserving. And it`s an American thing. Why would John Barry never get nominated for a Grammy or Oscar for any of the Bond films? And why was Hamlisch nominated for TSWLM? He was certainly the flavour of the month in the US back in 1977.

While Skyfall isn't my favorite Bond score, it is more than "adequate". I too prefer Arnold to Newman, but for me saying Arnold didn't contribute anything new is outta here. For me , Arnold reinvigorated the Bond sound. Hey, I love me some Barry / Bond scores, but Arnold nails it, electronics and all - give me that Miami airport track any day of the week over anything from Golden Gun or View To A Kill.

Newman? Well, I enjoyed Skyfall more than expected, didn't LOVE it, but am looking forward to him tackling Bond again..Anytime Newman does a score that isn't his patented "dropping loose change into a bowl" sound is OK by me razz

And Desplat should never do a Bond score. Nope. big grin

But as the lion says in those annoying Food Lion commercials, that's just my two cents.

I don't really care about how it ranks as a James Bond score, but SKYFALL is one of the most interesting action movie scores of the last several years. I think it's an achievement because it underscores the action so well, and heightens the suspense in a number of very creative ways throughout the flick.

In that sense, I don't think it's mediocre in the least. Cues like "Quartermaster," "The Bloody Shot" "The Chimera" and "Tennyson" and are absolutely awesome in the movie.

I'm happy for Mr. Newman and hope he finally gets that oscar that's so long overdue. Most mainstream composers have 'borrowed' his style from time to time, I think the man deserves one of those silly statues.

Jesus what I do to deserve the lashings? First of all Skyfall's score is not nominated for an Oscar. I am aware that Banks is... Not what I meant. Second what Bond score was nominated? Google is not my friend. I am too lazy.

Technically... Skyfall's score was nominated for an Oscar last year...

But I agree, what's with the freak out moments everyone? It was just a tiny mistake. The world isn't ending from it... I don't think at least...

Lighten up everyone!
