Milan had previously issued these tracks as a download, which was available on Amazon, but no longer appears to be. Compared to previous vinyl releases, the download (and this CD incarnation) eliminates all of the dialogue and narrative of the original LP, and purportedly, its 20 tracks contain 44:20 of music from the film. But upon close inspection, one sees that only 10 of the tracks (running 19:12) have any relation to THE LONGEST DAY. And even some of those (renditions of "Yankee Doodle," "Dixie" and Cole Porter's "Don't Fence Me In") are suspect. Even so, these 10 tracks don't seem to include all of the tracks on the French EP mentioned above. The remaining 10 tracks on the CD are from other films entirely (TAXI FOR TOBRUK, IS PARIS BURNING?, THE BATTLE OF THE RAILS, MR. ORCHID, and FORBIDDEN GAMES).

Thank you all for such insighful and fun info sharing! This board can still be useful and a nice community after all. Can I still remain a card-carrying Jarre completist if I pass this one, since I do have a download of the DAY tracks Bob mentions above? ;-) Of course. Can I ask you what is your rarest Jarre item ? Thanks I'm a 'cd only' guy, so to my knowledge, while I have only downloads or rips of the older obscure Ep's or Lp's (own a few of these, like Enola Gay for example), but as far as CD's go I have pretty much everything - the rare Varese' like No Way Out, Julia & Julia, the French Playtime, Milans 3cd Theater set, all those quick 500-1000 copy sellouts - got 'em. I'm guessing you may be a hardcore collector then too? I'm content with the cds, it's what I started with and is good enough

Interesting CD : 20000 leagues under the sea with Narration by Gérard Philippe and underscore by Maurice Jarre inspired by the Disney Film.

Same here, those are two really nice pieces, EG & Apology - big fan of that one, and know I'm in the minority since its all synth. Still have the film on VHS too.... Have Isadora, wish there was more to it :-/ I may be confusing the LEAGUES you mention above with ISLAND AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD (Disney narrated LP), but I think I've heard it. Have to check the 'archives' tonight to be sure! ISHII is another weird narration LP that should be revisited - glad to see a little made it to Universal France' boxset.

I think the rarest CDs of Jarre, are: -The french box with 5 CDs + 1 DVD + 1 book - Les Grandes Heures Du TNP, it's a wonderfull big box beautifully made with great pics of the French Theatre and Mr. Jarre -The promo copy of The Sunchaser -The Night Of The Generals - Intrada CD -The Professionals - Silva CD -Julia And Julia, No Way Out from Varese Very interesting, the deluxe Heures set! I wish I could find a track list to know what is not on the 3cd set from Milan.

I ordered THE LONGEST DAY from Amazon France, because it worked out to be a lot less costly for me, as an Australian, in exchange rate terms than the US price. The Amazon.Fr site makes it clear that the recording is actually one of music composed for films set in World War II, and with a French setting or connection. So the CD cover is misleading. It is an interesting anthology of music with World War II themes rather than just the score of The Longest Day.
