Not that anyone is reading this long thread anymore, but I thought I would chime in on the if you younger than 35 you love it, over and you dislike it. My partner Brian and I were talking yesterday. I was filling him in on what folks were saying about the age of folks. He's 43 and he LOVES it. Thinks it's a great fun adventure film and when it came out he was not 12, he was 19 years old in college. So not everyone who's over 35 hates it. I am 40, and I absolutely have always loved The Goonies. What is even better, is watching it with my kids now because they love it as well. On a different note...I got my Goonies and Scout in the mail this morning!!! Whoo Hoo!! I should be getting mine today as well. I think I may go to the gym now so I'll have the rest of the day to listen to my new CD's. I'm so excited!!!!

I received this a few days ago now and have listened all the way through. Even better than I anticipated! Much thanks Varese for a fantastic release!

Does anyone notice a similarity between this music and that heard in The Neverending Story? In particular, the descending 5-note motif ("Map and Willie") bears striking resemblance to the Fantasia motif heard when Bastian spys upon the tome in Koreander's book shop. I am so happy I purchased this CD -- to imagine missing out on such a splendid work... -Rick O. They even used the actual Fantasia motif in the trailer, so I've always assumed it was not a coincidence. both motifs really take me back. I noticed the cd is missing the music from the deleted scene where the Mikey picks up a map of Astoria from the liquor store. It includes a nice play on the descending motif (it acutally ascends a little too). I think the synth elements are mixed a little too loud on the waterslide music, but that is REALLY nitpicking. The cd sounds incredible and is thrilling to hear as a standalone experience. Lot of nuances were lost in the final film. This is music I've been dying to have on record (now CD) since I was a kid. My hat's off to Varese!

Still undecided on this one. Tried watching the movie years back but couldn't take it, and the sample from the Varese page aren't really that exciting. With 5000 copies there's a bit of time to decide - maybe not much time though - so, is it really worth it? Is it more a nostalgia item or is it really that good of a score ? Is there a link to a sample somewhere of a killer track that'll open my wallet ? I just finished listening to the entire score and, despite being huge Grusin fan, found the music to be kind of boring. I was hoping for some of that typical jazzy Grusin material but I found none and the only cue I found myself revisiting was the "Fratelli Chase" and the "End Titles." I think the popularity surrounding this score is really the result of nostalgia because as music, it's really is nothing special. At least IMHO. Perhaps I'll need to listen to it more than once, but with its hour plus run time, that could be difficult. Well I never expected a Jazz score, but I agree that the score here on CD is a bit underwelming. Theres nothing wrong with the music itself, but I think whats effecting my experience is the presentation on CD. These soundtrack labels always try to release everything creating really long programs which include cues that really don't need to be there, and ruin the flow of a balanced listening experience.

You can always program the cues you don't like out or make your own version of the CD.

Wow, I'm so grateful some of you guys weren't responsible for compiling this cd! I can't think of a note that is unwelcome. Rich stuff from beginning to end.

I agree, as I said earlier and MANY agree with. I'd rather have too much, than not enough. You can make your own separate shorter CDR or itunes playlist thingy.

I noticed the cd is missing the music from the deleted scene where the Mikey picks up a map of Astoria from the liquor store. It includes a nice play on the descending motif (it acutally ascends a little too). This scene includes the orchestral music from the "Map" cue with the original synthesizer melody Dave Grusin wrote before he revised most of his synthisizer stuff.

Patience is a virtue. But too much patience can get you in trouble, have you ever heard the expression "You snooze, you lose"? Good things come to those who wait. Patience is a virtue my friends. Dan you live in Cali, why is it taking so long, did you order a day or so later? I hope you get it VERY soon, like IMMEDIATELY. I also hope Townson hand delivers yours with a big smile!! Well that's what I wanted for me, but I live too far away.
