You might want to look at your Live Free or Die Hard cover again...the composer's last name.....
Aside from that amazing stuff.
Ah crud thanks for spotting that for me. I really hate when I make typos. :-\ Thanks for the compliments though.
Bondo,
To answer your question most of us use photoshop. I know I use it and I taught myself how to use it. I download high res textless posters from movieposter.db, a great place. All though you have to buy "credits" in order to get the posters. A 100 "credits" is about $8 (USD), which is pretty damn good. Most posters generally cost around 1 or 2 "credits", sometimes, 3 depending on how new it is.
With Kritzerland's recent re-twofering of THE PRIDE AND THE PASSION with KINGS GO FORTH, I had to do new covers.
Nice work.
I believe Bruce Kimmel said it was impossible to get any use of Sinatra's image for that KINGS GO FORTH due to rights issues with the family. You, luckily, don't have to deal with them! ;-)
I've noticed that licensing the image of Sinatra is extremely difficult. If you recall the CD release of CONTRACT ON CHERRY STREET, no Sinatra but lots of Henry Silva.
I should also say that Bruce Kimmel is one of the classiest people who posts regularly on this board and it is a shame he was unable to secure any images of Mr. Sinatra for his excellent reissue. As Varese & FSM wonderfully reissued half of both CLOUD NINE twofers, I was compelled to get the Kritzerland CD as well. Interestingly enough the 1992 CNR twofer that paired KGF with SOME CAME RUNNING has an abundance of Sinatra pics from both films. So, why deprive KRITZERLAND's great release from having great artwork, in one form or another.
Speaking of KRITZERLAND CD re-issues, here is another artistic tweak...
It's a shame Bruce couldn't attain complete original poster artwork for PIRATES, but I think I located and downloaded the same poster art source he ultimately used on his release. Thus, after I got his new and grandly remastered CD, I tinkered and created this alternative idea.
I created a custom cover for the Conlon recording of Bernard Herrmann's score to VERTIGO from the book it was issued with. I did most of it with PhotoShop and firstly drew the spiral effect basically from scratch, inverted the color and then added the black background replete with the Vertigo and Hitchcock fonts which I have also manipulated to change several letters that were originally only in lower case. Additionally I also added a Hitchcock logo in as well.
For the inside of the front cover there are several photo collages that one can find on the internet and I can point you in the right direction below.
For the rear CD Tray I used a shot of San Francisco bay (purposely not high quality to give it that dreamlike effect). The only thing that is missing is the spine and I could possibly add this in at some stage when I have time. If I do I will update the link below. And I thought that perhaps those of you with the Conlon recording may like to use the covers for yourselves. It looks great when printed on high quality glossy paper. I would be pleased to hear what you think of the artwork I did, this being my first time attempt at such a thing.
