In keeping with the early scoring/late release date, Rosenman's BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES was recorded in early December 1969 and the film was released on May 26, 1970...gotta resist the temptation to leak facts and figures from my book!

Doesn't the long production-to-release history of BENEATH reflect that Fox was in turmoil at the time? BENEATH was shot in the spring of 1969 but had more -- in fact, a lot more -- post-production SFX work and matte shots. Also, it may have been the case that once the movie was finished, Fox saw that it was best as a summer release -- and they were right. I really wish though, given all the months they had, that someone couldn't have fought for Jerry Goldsmith doing the score. He had time to do PATTON and BENEATH. I don't think BENEATH would have been a better movie with Goldsmith scoring it, but I'd probably like BENEATH if it had a Goldsmith score.

the next one is three scores on one CD - all quite brilliant.

Did I misinterpret this statement by Bruce? Was it the next release after this coming Grusin one?

Yavar

Yes, someone was talking about the next Soren Hyldgard CD. Falling in Love is on its own.

Bruce, just to clarify, do you mean the next Hyldgaard release has three scores on one CD, or the next release after the current pair has three scores on one CD by someone else?

The CD with the 3 scores could be the Victor Young CD he was talking about. ????

Right. That would be the counter-move to the Friedhofer scores from Intrada. It's like playing chess.

The Hyldgard release is the one with three scores. The next Victor Young has more than three scores. And there will be at least one or two other releases besides those.

Sean, I see we are twins when it comes to both loving The River cue as I posted just above your post. It is real music!!

Make that triplets. The River is one of my all time favorite cues.

Got room for another in the pram? Just ordered!

You and I in the same pram would be really interesting, Niall. Not to mention crowded. But climb on in.

We'd just need to get a bigger pram! Hey, when are you coming over, you're long overdue!

Presumably, the problematic stereo tapes were run through this application to remove the wow and flutter:

The demonstration is worth watching.

INCREDIBLE!

I've said before that I've never really cared for Rio Conchos, but my friend Mike("mgh"), has always praised this score to me on dozens of occasions, but I never could get into it. I even bought this Kritzerland release, thinking it might change my mind, but it didnt. THEN TODAY - 4 years after I got this release -, on a whim, I deicded to pull the Kritzerland off the shelf and give it another listen.
IT'S FINALLY "CLICKED"! I never realised what a HUGE DIFFERENCE Mike M made when he worked his magic on restoring this score!
I now realise that this is a FANTASTIC score, and one I'll be returning to again very soon!

Now... if I can just get my damned left eye to stop twitching......

Yup! I still prefer the Intrada LSO recording for certain amazing sections (Wall of Fire), but the Kritzerland is my go-to listen when I want to hear the complete score. It flows wonderfully.

Hmm, but I haven't grabbed the Hour of the Gun yet...

But hey, it's Kritzerland! Relistened to Beneath the 12 Mile Reef last weekend, amazing job imo. And that's just one.

Look elsewhere, WA...this one is long OOP and pricey I'm afraid. Go with LLL's Goldsmith western reissues first, since they're readily available. Get the Intrada LSO Rio Conchos for now and hopefully some other label will revisit Rio Conchos at some point.

Rio Conchos is pricey? I have a copy up (one of our emergency leftovers) on Amazon for its original price and I'm always available via e-mail.

Did you ever get Counterfeit Traitor? I don't remember reading your reactions to it, but that is the #1 must have (out of many must haves) IMO.
